LA Fitness
Does anybody belong to LA Fitness?
I want to join but NOT RIGHT NOW... My husband is a member and I really like the place but it isn't a conveinient location for me..
I belong to Ballys and I only pay about 14 dollars a month... There is a Ballys close to me at home and at work so the locations are REALLY convenient but I think I need to *up* my workouts and the larger gym with more to offer seems tempting. I'm not thrilled with Ballys, the one by work S U X... the one closer to home is alright.. I definitely think I'd get more out of the bigger gym and take advantage of the classes (my husband, cousin and cousin's GF are all members)
The thing is, I went last night as a guest and the salesman offered me $99 registration fee + 49.00 a month... That;s the deal my husband got abotu 6 months ago when he joined.
The salesman told me I have until the end of this week to *get* that deal. (Originally its 250 reg fee, 59 a month)
I'm thinking this is just their 'schtick' and that if I came in the middle of the summer they would have offered me the same deal. My husband was told the membership fee would be changing to 59/month soon when HE joined.
My problem is... I want to take the 2 week trial period and really check out the gym, see how I do with the little commute before I join...
My schedule is VERY flexible after the end of May so I want to wait until THAT time...
But I also don't want to miss out on only paying 49/month
Money is TIGHT these days but I really want to increase my workouts... In the long run, I think it's worth it..
I guess I'm looking for advice...
Do you think if I go back in a few months they would offer me the same deal, or do they put my name in a system which tells them they already OFFERED me that deal?

If you don't want to join right now, then don't. You will probably get that deal (or a better deal) in the summer. You can always negotiate with them again.
DH and I just joined LA Fitness (we're in FL) and it's such a beautiful gym. I'm sure the price we got is different b/c we're in FL and not on LI, but our deal was:
$99 initiation for both of us (so $49.50 each) $37/month each
They started out at $399 initiation and $49/month. We told them no way and got the manager and he gave us the deal above. It's amazing how much they overprice at first.
The LA Fitness down here actually is running a promotion for family members... if your DH is a member and you want to join it would be $0 initiation. But, that might only be the promotion for our gym and not every LA Fitness.

I dont' know where you live, but I belong to XSport in Garden City. I paid a $149 registration fee and pay $49 a month. But I love my gym!
I also have gotten months free for recommending people.

Yeah, I'm sure it's a higher rate b/c it's in Long Island/Queens...
it is a gorgeous gym... Even at 6pm on a weeknight, the parking lot was crowded, but the gym never seemed to be...
I want to join b/c I DREAD going to the gym on most days... I'm bored with Ballys... This one has so much that I actually got excited haha.
My son LOVED the daycare which is RARE RARE RARE..
It's just not a good time for me to add on another expense. Though I woulnd;t mind starting to workout there...Maybe I should just wait until they have some kind of family deal.
I'm just worried that b/c they have my name in their system... they know they already offered me the lower price.
then again--- I could always just NOT JOIN if they don't offer me something lower... I'm NOT a good negotiator and I don't know how badly they need my business... But I'm thinking they work off commission so they will probably want to get me to join..
I'm NOT a patient person at all... haha
thanks so much for your help!

Re: LA Fitness
That's so true... our gym is always so packed it's hard to find a parking spot, but then inside the gym isn't that bad. I think b/c it's SO huge.
They might have your name in the system and what they offered you, but so what? I don't think that really matters. Have you spoken with a manager yet? I'd just tell the guy you've been speaking with that money is tight, but you are very interested in joining. Then ask to speak with a manager and see what they can do for you. Tell him you will be using the daycare there and that your DH and several family members are member there already and you expected a better deal. It can't hurt!
