get to know the culture
learn as much as possible about my position and so I can add value to the job and firm

Depends on the job..is it management, etc....
For me I am not technically a manager but I am classified as management level in HR..so for my own personal goals in the first 6 months I wanted to:
1) Get to know the culture
2) Develop working relationships with my co-workers and managers
3) Establish credibility
4) Make a significant impact on my dept!

I would say
learning how to navigate my way through the company
putting in extra hours to learn my responsibilities
learning the company culture is a good answer
