Where will baby sleep for the first few months?

And if the baby's in your room, what will he/she sleep in? I don't want to spend a lot on a bassinet or cradle to only use for a few months (even if we have another baby). But I don't know how comfy the bassinet part of the pack and play will be.

Though I am thinking about one of those Arm's Reach co-sleepers, especially since I may be revising my thoughts on nursing, at least while I am on leave. That's something I would be willing to invest in, partly for convenience and partly because I love the idea of her being so close to me at night.

What are your plans?

Re: Where will baby sleep for the first few months?

We just put together our mini-co-sleeper. It will be going in our room next to our bed. I really like it. I got the fern green color. Hopefully it will work out and the baby will like it (and sleep VERY well in it!) I've heard great things about it. I think I even posted something on the parenting board and the moms that had it were very happy with it.

Check out Craigs list too.

Re: Where will baby sleep for the first few months?

we are going to have a crib in our room for a while. I have a cape and don't like the idea of having the baby upstairs alone even with a monitor.Plus, since we are not finding out what we are having but have found a boy set and girls nursery set we are in love with we are going to wait to do the nursery until after the baby is born.

We are going to buy a playpen that has the bassinet on the top.

After a few months to the crib he/she will go Chat Icon

I was just going to have our baby sleep in his crib right next to our room (next bedroom). Is that bad? I wasn't planning on purchasing a bassinet or cosleeper. Our bedroom is literally right next to his room.

I have been thinking about this too. I don't think I want a bassinet. I was thinking of a co sleeper. I am also considering letting baby go straight to the crib.

Hmm... another decision.

If you are going to have the baby in your room I would suggest the co-sleeper or the pack n play. I didn't care for the bassinet, the pack n play was more practical

same here! I see it as one less transition that we will have to deal with down the line.

Re: Where will baby sleep for the first few months?

With my first 2 and this one we had a bassinet in our room (it was passed down from my Great-grandparents), it was much easier because I EBF and then they moved to their own room in their crib around 4-5 months.

Re: Where will baby sleep for the first few months?

We are only planning on having the baby in our room for a couple of months. During the day I am going to let her sleep in her crib as well. I am using my pack and play as a bassinette. i didnt see the purpose of getting a bassinette when we only intend to use it for a couple of mo. and since the top section of the pack and play is made for infants I figured we might as well use it because she isn't going to use that part of it for very long.

I don't want to suffer through a transition later on.

Both in one crib in the nursery. It's a big enough room that there willl also be a queen size bed in there. Considering I'll be breast feeding two, and that means almost continuously throughout the night, I'll sleep in there.

I'll have the other crib in the dining room downstairs for their naps during the day.

Just a tip I got from a very veteran twin mommy. Her twins are middle aged nowChat Icon

We are using the bassinet my DH and his siblings used when they were newborns. It will be in our room. Then the baby will go to the crib in it's room.

Re: Where will baby sleep for the first few months?

Here is my reasoning for bassinet in the room for at least the first 2 months....

I had no clue how much noise the baby would make in his sleep..seriously...it was a blessing to have him next to us in a bassinet because if he had been in another room, the sounds over the monitor would have been enough to keep us up all night.

Also...what i was told is that its better for a newborn to be in a smaller cozy space rather than a big crib in the beginning..but i'm sure you could swaddle them and place them in the crib and be ok.

For ME it was the best thing-we will be transitioning to the crib very shortly as my little porkchop is outgrowing his bassinet...just wanted to share my opinion!

It is a bassinet that become a pack-n-play later on.
