I was laid off March 27 ***Upated***

And 70 something resumes later, I have not gotten one interview... it's pathetic. I have employment agencies calling me constantly, but not one real interview from any of them.

I did go on one interview last Friday for an admin position which is not what I have been doing, but I have not heard anything from him. He was a friend of a friend who was hiring for less than I was looking for, but he said he would consider the salary as I came very highly recommended... He said he was going to call my references and get back to me by yesterday... At first, I was debating if I wanted it or not as I was only out a week. I am now on week 2 and I am getting nervous. Hours were 9-6 in Manhattan and I would be away from the kids for 12 hours. But now I am desperate.


Now, how should I proceed? I am so afraid of saying the wrong thing, I can't even get up the courage to send an email... I think this whole lay off thing has completely taken away my self confidence...

So I FINALLY have an interview! And guess where? FORTUNOFF! (which I applied to almost a month ago). I never bothered calling my friend who's wife is there, I wanted to do it on my own and if worse came to worse, I would call... I am sure I am one of 100 but atleast I can get a chance at it. Of course, if I don't get it I will be devasted, but we will will see!

I also have a preliminary phone interview for a company called Green Depot. They are like Home Depot for only envirnomentally safe products... Neither know my salary requirements so let's see...

Oh and I didn't get an offer for the admin position. He never called as he said he would, but he told my friend that he was very impressed BUT he didn't have enough work for the salary I required... He said he will in about 6 months... I CAN NOT WAIT MONTHS!

It's only been 2 weeks. Give yourself some time. Don't take the first job. Did you get a severance package? Did you apply for unemployment?

I applied for unemployment but it still says processing... We can't live off it and it kills me to use up my savings...

No severance- what kills me most is that I asked the President of the company if I was going to get laid off and he said no, this was about 4 months ago. It was so slow but he said I was fine. If he said yes, I would have been out a while ago and could have been more selective.

i was laid off the day before you. I know how you feel. hugs.

you gotta brush yourself off and stand back up and get out there. try not to waste your energy (and I am trying real hard to do this myself) dwelling on what was and focus on what will be.

This is completely exhausting, I know...mentally and physically but try to do the best you can. I have not yet found a full time job but I am trying my best to heed my own advice.

I got a 91% on the brokers exam first try... I didn't pursue the license only because the company I was working for would require me to use MY license to get their corp license... TOOO MUCH LIABILITY!!!! I know someone who was just fined $20000 because of negligence at his company where his license was used...

Thanks everyone! I applied to both BBB and Fortunoff's and have heard nothing. The VP of sales in my old company is married to one of the VP's at Fortunoffs... I should give him a call and see if he could help me. He is listed as one of my personal/professional references...

i would stay away from fortunoff's now - They just laid off 192 people

I know how it feels - I got laid off 1.5 yrs ago and it's not a good feeling - even with severance & unemployment.

I cannot believe how bad the job market is now.
This stinks....Lets bring on the warm weather already......Need something to make me feel better.
