Cystic Fibrosis
Because of the whole baby dylan thing (my cousin) having CF- I am going to get testing tomorrow.
In order to have a child with CF, both parents need to be carriers.. so even if I turn out to be a carrier, DH would need to be one too.
I want to do this b/f we get PG....

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
My friend and his wife found out the hard way that they were both carriers of the genes.
I'll say a prayer for you

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
My prayers are with you...
Actually, it's very, very common to have one parent be a carrier for C/F. When I came back a carrier, it was like the floor fell out from beneath me.
We went to a genetic consultant who ran tests. Bob was cleared but they told us there is still like 1 in 1,000 chance if one is a carrier, that the baby can have C/F. I didn't opt for an amnio. C/F or not, I was having her. Let me tell you, I'm still freaked when I hear her cough or fake cough (she does that like clearing her throat thing for attention) like maybe she does have it. But thankfully she's fine..

Thank you.
I know it is sort of rare that we are BOTH carriers... but I decided we had to get tested- b/c if, as you said, the baby started coughing or had mucus we'd go bananas.. that is exactly what happened with my cousin & it took them 4 months to figure out it was CF.

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
I think it's a good idea for you to be tested. It's no big deal, simple blood test. I know my doctor tested at the very beginning of my pregnancy, I don't know why all doctors don't test for this. My brother and SIL just had a scare b.c she tested positive but luckily my brother tested neg.
Good Luck!

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
I don't know why either.
Unfortunately, they don't test the baby unless the mom is 35+.. which makes no sense to me.
