Bahamas - Atlantis
We just booked a trip to Atlantis in June....any things to avoid (or make sure we do!!) while down there? Or any tips on keeping food costs down since that seems to be very expensive!!

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
I just got back from Atlantis. It was amazing! I would pet the dolphins and I wouldn't miss the Lazy River, that isn't really that lazy. It's more like rapids and one of the slides goes right through a shark tank. It was so amazing. Also snorkling in the Lagoon was pretty cool too. You will have a great time no matter what. It was so much fun!

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
i went on my honeymoon and stayed in the royal towers...but now looking to go back to stay at the cove. it looks amazing.
we had the gourmet dining plan which was amazing. we didn't spend a dollar on food..just on wine and stuff. but if you are going with kids, they have a cheaper meal plan. my suggestion...buy a meal plan. they have something like 25 restuarants. while you are there...it would be easy to drop a huge amount of $ on the food. your at a huge hotel, after all. everything is overpriced.
since it was my honeymoon, i did a lot of excursions. we swam with the dolphins, which i would totally suggest and we went on this excursion where they take you on this speed boat to a remote island. your there the entire day and they cook for you. we got to swim in the ocean with the sting ray, which you are allowed to feed and we swam with sharks. yes, i said it correctly...the sharks were close enough that we saw them.
but if you just stay at the hotel, trust me...you won't be bored. there is more then enough to do, from the casino, to all of the pools that they have, the water slides, which are so much fun and the beach, where you can rent jet skiis, etc. it's just a really good time. but again...get the meal plan.
we took the boat from the atlantis into town. i mean, there is nothing so special there unless you like the markets. they have a big straw market but it's kind of like china town, but in the bahamas. lol.
i am trying to attach some of my pictures..but not sure if it will work. you can fm me if you have any questions. i'll try to help you out. :) i'm jealous Image Attachment(s):

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
i just realized how bad i look in that picture oh well...
cafe martinque was one of the best restuarants i think i have ever eaten at. this was not on any meal plan and cost a fortune!!! but it was my honeymoon, after all. i think, now, it's on the gourmet meal plan. the food is amazing and so is the service.
anyway...please don't mind what i look like!!!

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
They actually did away with the Meal Plan for 2008! They told us to call back in a few weeks to see if they added it back, the woman wasn't sure if they were or not. I found some info online that said they may be adding it back for $118 per person/per day for the Gourmet plan so I don't know if it would cost us more then that to eat on our own everyday.
We are staying in the Beach Tower.

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
i went last year-didnt get the meal plan bc we were there for a wedding and u have to get consecutive days...but as an above poster mentioned, i think they did away w/the meal plan...
bring snacks-100 calorie snack packs! at the breakfsat buffets, sneak some baggies in and take fruit-thats what we did
we mostly hung out by the pool/tubing areas-and for lunch we just ate simple cheeseburgers n chicken fingers-it was a lot, but better than going into one of the rest.
also-remember, EVERYTHING is taxed..if u get a soda, its 15% gratuity, etc
we also ate at johnny rockets-which was good that they had there
im jealous..now i wanna go back!

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
I would go on tripadvisor.com to get comments/advice from travellers who have been there around that time...are you travelling w/ children? If June is a prime time, you may want to find out if you need to go down to the pools very early to get chairs, as I hear they can get taken very quickly during busy months.
We went 2 Octobers ago when DD was about 10 months old, it was a great trip!!! You will love it...tons of stuff to do, we got the gourmet meal plan to save a little $$$ but I just heard they did away with that . Have a wonderful time!!!

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
even w/the food plan it still was expensive---if i remember correctly, it doesn't cover it all.....if you think that you want to do the plan....check tripadvisor......the place is huge...took us 2 days to see it .....was more of a family place....the slides were fun and the only thing to really do at night is the casino....would only go back when i have kids....to me, not a couple place

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
i disagree with the nightlife. dh and i had something to do every night. then again, if one is not a drinker, then i can see maybe it getting a little boring. we went to the bars and lounges they have in the atlantis. plus, we had dinner late and didn't start our nights until like 10ish.

Dh and I aren't drinkers and we still had a blast everynight!! There's tons of stuff to do......we would still go to the lounges (and nurse a drink all night), played video games at the game room, saw two or three movies at their little theater, went for long walks on the beach!!
Theres plenty to do!!

Also- I just found out that they did away with the meal plan! Which in't a big deal..its not like the meal plan makes it any cheaper...you are just paying for it all in advance. Brian and I both said we'd do away with the meal plan next time we go anyways!

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
Also if you can swing it go swimming with the dolphins!!! SOOOOO much fun!! They now offer it at the resort but we still choose to go to Blue Lagoon Island for it (its a ferry ride away). Its $10 more at Blue Lagoon but its nice to go to the island, plus they do the foot push which is totally worth the extra money!

We are going on Monday. DH's boss told us it's really not worth it. He said there might be days where you don't get up in time for breakfast and days where you have a late lunch and won't be hungry for dinner. So we decided against it

We are going in two weeks and we decided to take advantage of the meal plans. We usually only eat breakfast and dinner when we go away anyway so this worked out for us, and if we are hungry we can always get something for lunch. I thought that the price was reasonable, less than what we would spend without the meal plan per day.

Re: Bahamas - Atlantis
I went to Atlantis in November for my anniversary. I had a great time. Everything is so expensive though. The water slides were so much fun. Fathoms was our favorite restaurant. Have a great time.
