Question for those w/ masters degrees
Are you currently working in the field you got your degree in? If not, what is your degree in and what is your current occupation?

Re: Question for those w/ masters degrees
I have a master's in human resources, and I have never worked in human resources. I don't regret getting it, because I needed a master's (any master's) for my current position. I thought I'd be able to get a higher-level position in HR with the master's, but without significant work experience I was only eligible for entry-level positions, which were too large a pay cut.

Re: Question for those w/ masters degrees
No
I got my Master's in Education in 2004. While I was getting it I was working as the Product Manager for a company that manufactures medical supplies.
I'm still here!!

Re: Question for those w/ masters degrees
I sort of work in a related field...I have a MPA (Masters of Public Administration) but I work in a corporate legal department for an insurance giant. I deal with gov't regulatory filings, etc. but I am not involved in management per se. I could never go work in my field since I'd be taking a HUGE pay cut, but since my MPA is sort of a management degree, I can take that knowledge and apply it in a private sector as well.

Re: Question for those w/ masters degrees
I have my Master's in social work but am trying to figure out something else to do with my life. Too much bureacracy in my field!
Plus anything that's not real stressful, you often have to take a huge paycut for!

Re: Question for those w/ masters degrees
Honestly, I feel they have so many majors in school that you can't really do anything with your degree....or can do the same job with any other degree anyway. I feel my masters in social work was a COMPLETE waste of time and would discourage anyone from going that route.....unless they don't care about being poor for the rest of their lives.... LOL, anyway, I am in the process of becoming a teacher.

Yes. I have my MA in Music Composition and I am a Music Professor at Nassau Community College. I am also a performing songwriter so I use my degree and education everyday.

One of my biggest regrets in life was listening to my mother and changing my first major which was education---she is a retired teacher and where I was living and going to school at the time (near her) good teaching jobs are impossible to come by, so she encouraged me to change majors. I was young and didn't know any better!
So I changed over to social work. I really think I would be much happier if I was a teacher.
I feel like I have no time for anything, make less than most teachers I know (especially on the island!), and will be lucky if I am allowed to take 1-week straight of vacation some time this year.
I know it comes with the territory, but I constantly feel myself being degraded because I am not an RN/psychologist therefore, my opinions/recommendations/assessments don't count for anything to many people.
