Travel agents - do you need them?
We are planning a trip for our 5th yr anniv in late Sept/early Oct. We are going to bring our son with us, he will be 11 months. Do you think we need a travel agent? If so, any recommendations?
TIA

where are you planning on going?
I usually book our trjps myself butg last year we did a cruise and I used a travel service to book the cruise.
Sometimes they can get you better prices than you can find on the web

Re: Travel agents - do you need them?
We booked our HM directly with the resort we were staying at. We didn't need a TA. We booked our flights directly with the airline (and the price was better than going thru Travel Zoo or Expedia) and our hotel stay directy with the in-house travel reservations.
I'm sure if you did some research about where you'd like to stay, you could call the hotel and speak with someone in their in-house travel reservations. If you wanted to make any plans for any excursions, they will be able to do it for you.

Re: Travel agents - do you need them?
The only time we used a TA was for our honeymoon to Tahiti. We were going to several islands where we needed transportation in between each and we felt like we should go through a TA for all that. It would have been hard to book all of that ourselves (interisland flights, transportation to resorts, etc).
But for other vacations like cruises, all-inclusives... we just do research to find the best prices and book ourselves.

Same with us, although we didn't go to Tahiti for our honeymoon, we went to Belize. We only booked our honeymoon through a TA, overall, we don't really find the need to use one. We were glad we used one for our honeymoon, since we were spending a lot of money on that trip and wanted to have someone to call if we had any changes or problems.

I book all of my own trips.. EXCEPT for all-inclusive resorts. No matter where I look online, my TA always has the best prices.. and if she doesn't, she matches the lowest one that I find.
