I am going to be a first year teacher next year and I was wondering what happened with the budget?

Re: NYC Budget
NYC Does not have a a budget vote like suburban school districts. they are at the mercy of the city and the Mayor's office for funding.
Take a look at the UFT's website...they are the teacher's union and have the salary scale posted. that will be the same for all hired, regardless of what funding the schools get. what is in the contract is guaranteed once you're hired.

Re: NYC Budget
So, does each school have a seperate budget? I went on an interview and they said they were waiting to see what the budget was before they made a decision.

Re: NYC Budget
yes, individual schools are given a budget that the principals must work within to operate their school. they are probably just waiting for the dollar amount to come back and see how much staff they can afford, programs to add, etc. But once you're hired, you're paid according to the contract.

Re: NYC Budget
Our individual school budgets also depend on citywide budget cuts...Our budgets were just cut and are planned to be cut again by 5% again in September ...even though the city has quite a large surplus!!!!
