Re: Alaska

We really liked one in Skagway where we hiked part of the Chilkoot trail and then rafted down the Taiya river. We were supposed to do the dog-sledding excursion in Juneau, and I think it would've been great, but the weather was bad and it got cancelled. Very disappointing. But we got to do a different excursion there where they took us up to the Mendenhall Galcier by helicopter and we got to walk around on it & learn some stuff... that was kinda cool too.

Re: Alaska

My favorite excursion was the helicopter tour over the glaciers.

We also loved the tour in Denali; the canoe trip; four-wheeling; railroad up to the Yukon territory.

The lumberjack show was pretty hokey, but fun!

Thanks - I've never been in a helicopter - I think I might be a little to scared to go on one!

The helicopter isn't scary! You should definitely go if you have the chance! You can see out all the windows for an unbeatable view, and it's pretty gentle taking off & landing.

Re: Alaska

When I went on my Alaskan cruise, I bought a book that offered information about Alaskan cruise ports.

For almost all of the ports, we did our own walking tours using the guidebook and just explored on our own. HUGE $$ saver and we saw some interesting stuff!

Just do it. I was scared too, but once we were up in the air it was fine.

We just went on an Alaskan cruise with NCL in May. Here were our excursions:

Juneau--Helipcopter with Guided Glacier Trek--Really cool views, amazing how quite it is on the glacier, highly recommend.

Skagway--Ultimate Yukon with White Pass Railway--The bus ride to the Yukon was very scenic and we saw a lot of wildlife (bears, mountain goats, foxes). The stop at Carcross was kind-of boring, and it snowed really bad on the train ride down so we couldn't see anything. But I still would recommend as the tour guide was great (very funny) and the train would have been amazing if the weather held out.

Ketchikan--Misty Fjords by Boat--My favorite excursion. It was so beautiful and so different than the rest of Alaska (so green). We saw bald eagles and seals and tons of waterfalls.

Victoria--Victorian Highlights and Craigdarroch Castle--This was okay. Victoria is a pretty city at night, but the Highlights tour was just driving around residential neighborhoods, which wasn't that interesting (kinda like driving through Garden City, nothing that exciting). The Castle is nice, but you didn't need a tour guide to get you up there. Our bus driver didn't know how to drive stick and kept stalling.

Enjoy!
