Working out when you are sick?

I have strep throat so on antibiotics...but throat feels fine. On top of it the other day I got a cold....a real doozy...can't breath and blowing my nose non stop!

Would you be working out? I went to the gym the last two days, and today took spin...I feel better right after...but now Im crashing. Am I being stupid...should I just stop for a few days or do you think it's not doing me any harm. I thought they say when it is neck up...it's ok to sweat???

When I had a cold, I was wondering the same thing. It was a little difficult to breath, so I would just take it easier than usual, but I still worked out. I really think that you should let your body rest maybe an extra day, but don't give up working out all together. At least that's what I did and my cold didn't last long at all!

I would do some light walking on the treadmill, but that's about it. Your body needs your energy to heal.

If you go to a gym, definitely don't workout. Stay home, get rest, and don't make everyone else sickChat Icon

Typically, if I am sick I still go to the gym. My husband has a rule, if the ailment is above the shoulders (cough, scratchy throat) go to the gym, below the shoulder (ie stomach virus) stay home.

That is a great rule. Usually it's ok to work out when you're sick (depending on how sick you feel), but I would keep it light too. Or use the rule above. Make sure to stay hydrated too!

It really depends on how bad I feel. If I feel horibble I wont go but If I think I can handle it it I go. Feel Better

Thanks girls! I decided to not workout today and not until Saturday. I have this horrible cold and on top of it I am moving Friday...so Im taking it easy till Saturday morning.
