So I am running my first race this sunday! UPdate
My sister and I decided to run a 5 mile race in central park Sunday morning. I have never run that far before (most is 4 miles).
Today was also our first day running together. I never ran with anyone before. We had a good time.
Wish me luck! Any tips?
UPDATE: Thanks guys.I didn't end up running. DD woke up twice last night and I barelygot any sleep. There is another race next weekend, but I would do it solo since my sister will be out of town. If not, there is another race in a few weeks we canrun together.

Good Luck! My advice is do not go out super hard. Other people might sprint the first 200-400 yards, but make sure you go at a pace that is comfortable for you. If you go out too fast, 5 miles is going to feel much longer. Also make sure you eat breakfast which will settle well in your stomach. Other than that - have fun!!

Great tips. I would add--make sure to be well hydrated, esp. if it's hot out. Good Luck!

I am so jealous, I love the NYRR races in the park!!
The other poster was so right...start off at almost a trot...seriously...midway through you will be flying past the other runners! Also, get there a little early to get a good spot in the coral, the NYRR races have gotten really crowded.
Have fun, and enjoy every moment...by 9am you will have done more than most people will do all day!

i agree with the others, start out slow and then by the end you'll be passing people left and right  and don't forget to hydrate!

Good luck. I've only run 2 miles but I agree with what everyone else has said. Watch your pace, hydrate, and eat before the race. One of these days I'll get to a 5K. That's my goal.
