UPDATE My first ? on this board: Should I be panicking?

My RE's office faxed me the results of the cystic fibrosis test and it says I am positive for one copy of delf508 mutation and normal at all other tested mutations sites. Interpretation says I am heterozygous for delf508 mutation. What now? I know DH needs to be tested but just how concerned should I be? It sounds bad. Chat Icon

UPDATE:
DH is not a carrier! So relieved! Although, when I called my RE's office the doctor gave me the same info you ladies did! Thanks, ladies! Chat Icon

I wish I knew about this to offer some advice, but I don't. I would call your RE this morning and ask what it means. Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: My first ? on this board: Should I be panicking?

the same exact thing happened to me and I panicked too! After talking with my doctor I calmed down.

The chances of my Dh also being a carrier for CF were very low. Even if we both turned out to be carriers for CF , the chances of the baby actually having it are 1 in 4.

Dh got tested and he is not a carrier so we have nothing to worry about.

Try not to worry about it too much. DH will get tested and it will be a waiting game at this point. But the chances are low that you and your DH will both be carriers. (IMO)

I'm holding with the RE's office now. I'm happy to hear it's rare that we're both carriers but we're both caucasion. Doesn't that increase our risk?

The doctor is supposed to call me back.

Thanks everyone! Chat Icon

same thing with us...I feel like they should test the husband at the same time as the wife, so you dont have to play the waiting game.

Not only does your husband have to be a carrier, I believe (from what I remember) that he has to have the exact same mutation as you. Try not to stress, much easier sad than done, trust me I know. Good luck! And make him go for the test today!

Re: My first ? on this board: Should I be panicking?

my dh is a cf carrier but I am not as long as 1 parent isn't its ok both have to be a carrier for there to be a risk deffinately get him tested to put your mind at ease plus your child can also be an uneffected cf carrier but does not mean that they will have it good luck

yes, i was told that my babies may come up in the hospital as potentially having it, but that will happen because they could be carriers.

Re: My first ? on this board: Should I be panicking?

try not too worry. i was a carrier too and it can be very nerveracking, your dh has a very low chance of being a carrier of the same mutation. and even if he is, that does not mean the baby has cf. Chat Icon

Re: UPDATE My first ? on this board: Should I be panicking?

That's great news. We also just went thru this. DH has the same mutation, I did not test + for any. I am glad to hear it worked out for you. I know how nervewracking it is. Chat Icon
