SmartBoard anyone?
My school is BIG on this now...we have about 7 new ones coming into school- and I'm getting one!! I'm sooo excited. It's pissing DH off though...I spend WAY too much time playing around with the software and creating all the stuff I can do with my students!  It's so fun!!!
I sound like such a dork. I just love fun new technology!

i am so jealous of you! my school has TONS of them, but they keep going to classroom teachers first. meanwhile, i have the most learning disabled kids on the grade level, who would so benefit from the visual and auditory things I SmartBoard can provide. and i am still waiting for one. i should tell them that my on-line friend who is a MUSIC teacher got one... that is awesome for you!!!!

Yeah I was kind of surprised, but I had an edge because I took a Professional Development course. I was the last in line to be picked (knew that would happen) but at least I get one!! I told my sister (who teaches K) and she was so SHOCKED - she said "A MUSIC teacher gets a smart board?" And I told her all the things I could do - she was shocked. What do they think we do all the time? Sit and sing songs all day? We do teach a subject- geeez!
The cool thing was at our final class we had to present lessons- and the technology guy from the district came and videotaped us to show the Board of Ed, to drum up support for more SmartBoards in the district. So I guess mine was shown to the board! It was cool because the teachers I presented to were so surprised what 1st graders learn in music. We get such a stigma for being 'special.'
I can't wait to show this off for my tenure observations!

yay for you! i have taken like FOUR courses on smartboard and nothing!
but it's going to be so cool for you! you can do all this great stuff with musical notation on there. and don't quote me on this, but i have heard people teaching Kodaly on the smartboard ... you get the computer to play the intervals and they see the notation jumps on the screen... although maybe that's another program that they're using and the Smartboard is just acting as the screen? not sure....

Thats awesome, our school PTA did a fundraiser this year for smartboards and they raise enough money for 15, unfortunately I wasn't picked to get one, but each grade level has a portable one to share.

I totally appreciate what you do!  I was almost a music teacher. i was a voice minor in college... and i didn't have the confidence in performance that i think i needed to be a major. So, i did elementary education with a music/voice minor. I ended up taking a lot of music courses - theory, sight-singing, etc. Dictation was sooo hard though!

Every department in my school has a Smart Board. I love using it! (It took me a little while to get the hang of it, but now I love it!)

If you go to tequipmet.com, you download the notebook software for free, plus they have lots of templates and lesson plans.
