SmartBoard tutorial - beginner question

JUST got a SmartBoard in my room today... I know how to navigate with my finger and have the kids play interactive games. I want to know

a) Is there an intro tutorial video or something I can watch to refresh my memory on all the buttons, features, etc.?

b) Must I create a document in Notebook in order to be able to use the "markers" to write and then translate that handwriting into typed text? How do I do that?

c) What's your favorite website with activities?

I'd love to use it tomorrow with the kids...Thanks in advance!

Re: SmartBoard tutorial - beginner question

hey, i know a bit about the Smartboard... the teacher I push in with has one, i don't have one yet.

1. try smartnotebook.com (i think that's the site) they probably have some tutorials on there.

2. You do need to create the document in Notebook if you want to use any of the functions, like the Marker, highlighter, their graphics, etc. you can import a word document in there, but then you can't move the text around.
off the top of my head, i forget how to print out stuff (handwriting to typed text). I usually type out the kids thoughts as they say them... the handwriting to text option isn't always accurate, particularly because your handwriting is never as neat as it would be on a chalkboard or dryerase board, it gets pixelated.

3. dont' have specific websites for you. we mainly use it for notes, images, streaming video, etc. but we do play different games on it, so any internet site/game you like will work on the smart board.. it's essentially just enlarging your computer screen. your finger or knuckle will act as the "clicker" like a mouse.

feel free to let me know if you need any more pointers... it's hard to explain, but i "just do it" i find it very self-explanatory... it just takes a little practice with the navigation of the top menu.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks! I played with it on my prep today and figured some things out...

Can I download the software on my computer at home so I can make Notebook documents?

Re: SmartBoard tutorial - beginner question

Believe it or not, youtube has some really great tutorials of real teachers teaching it to you.
Also, I love www.tequipment.com
It has lesson plans and tons of free downloads, etc. They are all former teachers that run the site, so it's great.
