if going to europe in march/april 2009

never been to europe, but planning on booking a trip to London for sometime in either March or April '09. How far in advance should I book or start looking into this trip?

Avoid Spring Break time.

It's a "popular" time for traveling so I would think 5-6 months.

If you have the cash it probably wouldn't hurt to book your plane tickets now just in case the prices keep rising. DH and I are going to Hong Kong and Krabi, Thailand in April and we will be booking our flights this week.

March isn't considered high season for tourism as its still cold in the UK, May-Sept is a much higher season. I would start looking around about 3-4 months before hand, flights tend to fluctuate in price, and I think you get the best deal about 8 weeks before you want to fly (but thats just from my experiences)

Make sure that you try to get out of London for a few days if you can, London isn't a really good representation of how beautiful England really is...some day trips like to the Cotswolds or Brighton would be great!

just a good for instance about buying plane tickets...I was pricing flights from the UK to JFK the last week in August, for months it was VERY expensive, about £1400 for 3 of us to fly, I checked two weeks ago and the flights went down £400....thats $800. Don't book too far in advance, you could pay un-necessarily high prices.

We are going with a tour company to Paris and London during spring break (DH and I are the chaperones for the students) so the company books everything. Just so you know, it is a great time to go. The weather was great last year for us in London and Dublin. It didn't rain once, which I know was a freak thing, but the climate was great.
