Anyone ever use Prilosec OTC?
Does it work? Or is there something better.
Thanks, Scott

I've used it - didn't work for me. Prevacid is the only thing that helped, but you need a prescription for it. I hear it's basically the same thing, but for some reason the Prilosec didn't work.

Re: Anyone ever use Prilosec OTC?
My hubby swears by it. However- you need to take it for at least a week to see results. (It's not an instant cure like Tums or Zantac) It's a 14 day course of treatment- after which you stop it for a while. He cycles on and off of it as needed. He doesn't get heartburn anymore since using it- and he used to have TERRIBLE acid reflux.

I have used it and it worked pretty good. I prefer Nexium (you need a prescription for it).

I have been taking Nexium for the past year or so but it doesnt work for me anymore. In the past few weeks I have been getting heartburn 1 or 2 times a week.

I take Zantac. I have no patience for the stuff that doesn't work instantly.
Maybe it's time you went to the doc? If something stops working, I would reach out to my doctor. Maybe there's a more serious problem.
Good luck.

Scott- Please go to the doctor.
We are going through this with my DH. I didn't even think he had "bad" AR until recently, when it got really really bad.
He's been taking Nexium for about 6 months and tons of other meds before that for about a year, and nothing is working....and he is now supposed to be getting surgery soon.
What freaks me out though is that his testing showed really bad damage, pre-cancerous. My sister's husband is also fighting esophageal cancer.
Please go to the doctor. If meds aren't working maybe it has gotten worse.
I can recommend my DH's gastro if you need one! Melissa

Scott -
I cannot begin to tell you all of the gastro related issues I have, but one thing i have learned....
if you are taking a certain medication and it stops working, then something is definitely going on that needs to be checked out.
please see a doctor as soon as you can. nexxium is a very good drug and it normally works, if it has been until now, there may be something else happening...

Re: Anyone ever use Prilosec OTC?
definitely go to the doctor but also make sure you do simple things to help like not eating 2 hours before bed and if you do, sit up for at least an hour before you lie down. try not to have too many carbonated drinks and caffeine which is really a big culprit. not too many spicy foods etc. i was going to recommend nexium because that's primarily what we use in the hospital but if you've already been on it for a year i would recheck your diet and go back to your doctor. good luck scott.

Re: Anyone ever use Prilosec OTC?
I usually dont eat before bed.
I gave up Caffiene 4 months ago
I think the reason why I have been getting heart burn is because I had onions on the nights I got it.
I stopped taking Nexium and I am trying the Prilosec for the 14 days.
If that doesnt work I will go back to my doctor.
Thanks
