c-section vs vaginal dilemma

Right now, both babies are in position to have a vaginal. I had a doctor's appt yesterday and he told me that my cervix was basically "gone" and I am a good 2cm dilated. So I know this will happen soon. Anyway, out of the 4 doctors in my practice, 2 have told me that should the babies stay this way, I will have the option of going vaginally and that they support whatever decision I make. The dr I saw yesterday was totally pushing a c-section on me and said that he has only done 3 vaginal twin deliveries in the past few years. OK, great....so my feeling is that if I do not go in the next few days, I will go by the weekend and this doctor told me he is on-call. I am sort of annoyed that he is basically making the decision - and to top it off, I know w/ my luck, he will be on-call when I go into labor, so I will not be comfortable choosing a vaginal; for one thing, he has not done many, and the other is that he does not seem supportive of the decision. Part of me just says maybe I should just do the c-section and be done, but the other part says why do surgery and have a longer recovery if I can avoid it? The only thing that scares me is having the first vaginally and having to have a c-section for the other. Is that pretty common??

At first I wanted a vaginal birth but after doing some research I think that a c section is the safer way to go. I would hate to have baby A come out and then need a c section for baby B. There are also studies my doctor showed me that shows baby B can suffer during labor.

It's a personal choice and you just have to do what you feel is best

I had a c-section only because I had to. Both my babies were breech. If they were both in position I totally would of went for a vaginal delivery.

For me personally my recovery was very painful. The day of the delivery I was in so much pain afterwards that I didnt even get to see the babies. It took me about 2 months for my body to get back to normal.

i had a c/s is was great. the healing was wonderful. my dr. didn't give me an option. I was very terrible with the c/s from the beginning.

Thanks for replying! As I said, I also have that same fear as you regarding the need to have a section for baby b. I guess I will have to see what happens - hoping that I get a different doctor when I go in and he can give me a more objective point of view than the one I saw yesterday.

I had a scheduled C/s. Both babies were breech and backwards!

However, my dr. was all for the c/s because she was afraid that if I delivered one, and then needed a c/s for the other....that just stinks! Also, I paid a lot of money to get pregnant, so she didn't want to risk anything.

My recovery was horrible. My incision opened up and I had to have a nurse come to the house every day for almost 2 weeks.

The flip side is that sex was a lot easier then a vaginal delivery!

Mine were both head down ready to go - I made it to 8 and wound up with a c-section. After hearing Baby A was sunny side up and Baby B had the cord wrapped around her neck I was glad I ended up with the c-section. Things have a way of working themselves out!

My recovery was awesome, I was out shopping the day after I got home, and cleaning my bathroom the following week. Now, I don't even remember that I had one.

When I spoke toone of my dr. about it he sounded like he was pushing for a c-section too. But my take on it is that it is my body and if it is safe to do so I am going to try for a vaginal delivery.
Of course I have a long way to go to change my mind, but that is where I am for now!

Both my boys were head down and never considered a c-section, but when i did push , they told me that i would be pushing in the OR because sometimes there can be complications with the second delivery.
I actually had both naturally and was very happy I did...they were 2 hours apart which was the longest my Dr.s ever seen.
I say, if they are in reday position, try going vaginally. If you are going to breastfeed it may be a better recovery

Mine were head down and my Dr wanted me to try for the vaginal delivery. I was induced for 3 days and nothing, so I had to have a c-section since one of my boys was not gaining enough weight at that point. I think it is silly that he is pushing a c-section on you. If they are head down and ready to go, I would try to have a vaginal delivery especially if 2 other Dr's agree with that.

Mine were head down and the dr. was supportive of a vaginal delivery. I was induced and had both vaginally (12 mins apart). I would try for the vaginal birth. My recovery was pretty good.

I had no desire to even try for a vaginal birth. I elected for a C-Section from the start and have no regrets

I had mine girls vaginally without an epi..they are 7 minutes apart.

They were both head down. I was told that you couldnt ask for a better position for twins to be in for a vaginal delivery...So I rolled with it. Very glad that I did b/c I was up and running within a few hours.

I had a scheduled c-section and knew from the beginning (my boys shared the same placenta and had other issues). I had a great recovery from my c-section. I was walking around the floor the next day with pajamas on and went out shopping 3 days later to BRU. I was back to my old self 2 weeks later and I don't regret it for a minute.

I have friends and family who had much worse experiences with vaginal births and c-sections, so I think it really is random how you will recover. My sister scared the crap out of me because she had a bad c-section experience with her second. I had nothing of what she had.

So it's totally should be up to you how you feel.

My twins were a c-section due to IUGR with one of the babies, however, they were in position the entire pregnancy. The Dr. didn't want to risk a natural delivery and stress out the baby with IUGR.
I had my first son naturally and I recommend that kind of delivery if it is possible.

Thanks for all the replies. Tomorrow is my drs appt, so I'm going to address it again. It's with the 4th dr in the practice, who I have never discussed it with (just to make things more complicated, LOL).

my babies were head down too. i was really torn about what to do. i decided to have a c section. i thought it was wonderful and just had my 6 week pp check up today. all is well. i would do it again ( if i wanted more babies). i had a good experience and totally reccommend it for a twin delivery. i really didnt have any pain and recovery was fine. in 2 days i felt great and by the time i left the hosipital i felt like i hadnet even had surgurury. i am a little tender above my scar and occasionlay i would get a quick shooting pain but by the time i realized it was hurtign it was gone. it was nothing. i dont consider myself a person who deal with pain well. i debated this for months. do what you want but i HIGHLY reccommend the c section. i know people will disagree but everyone has to do what is best for them. this was wonderful. i did not want baby b to be in distress i did not want a vag and a section and i didnt want to be in labor for hours only to need a c section anyway. best of luck
