Thats my issue with it too. I 100% understand if there is no choice in the matter, of course thats acceptable and understandably. But when I see a mom and a dad there with a baby for something like a sono, I dont understand why the Dad cant stay with the baby somewhere thats not in the middle of the waiting room. When they start talking and playing with the baby it takes all I have not to ask them to stop, truly.

I know its not a pleasant thought , but Those are the ones that affect me.

I agree with this....it happened the other day at my clinic. The girl was adorable and I was talking to her, but....why didn't dad just stay upstairs, or in the car with her?? I didn't mind myself but I did think it was somewhat insensitive.

absolutely. I think in a pinch you do what you have too. BUt if you have someone else with you it is completely unneccessary and inconsiderate to bring your child.

Re: Question about your clinic's policy

I dont know what the policy is at the RE I was going to - but I was really annoyed when people would bring their kids in and let the kids run around and make all kinds of noise. It was a total disregard for those of us who we having a hard time getting PG. It used to upset me and I dont think that kids should be at an infertility clinic. Surely a babysitter can be found to watch the child for an hour or so.

ETA: I dont mean to offend anyone, I'm just speaking about how it makes me feel personally. Please don't flame.

I never really thought about this. The only time it would bother me was when this one lady would come in and she was like a bull in a china shop. She was all over the place and loud. It's 7 am, please be quiet!

Overall, it never really seemed to bother me. It was kind of nice to see the success stories. I can see how it would bother a lot of women though.

Re: Question about your clinic's policy

I actually think the way a waiting room is set up is what can make seeing little ones uncomfortable or not.

At RSofny they had the worst set up. You would go from a large waiting room...that had space, to a small overcrowded room. You would sit or stand so close to the person next to you, you knew exactly what their situation was. Some women would be holding sonogram photos , using their cell phones to call their family members while, others could be sitting there, experiencing the loss of a pregnancy. The children would run all over because there was nothing to keep them occupied. The children didn't bother me, the lack of consideration the clinic had for the different issues the patients were faced with ..did.

NSUH has glass walls that separate the large waiting room, it's a more private environment. Having babies and children around there wouldn't bother me at all.

This used to bother me more than the children did-- with the kids in the waiting room, I figured maybe it was difficult to line up regular childcare, with all the ultrasounds and blood draws you constantly have. But there's no excuse for being insensitive, calling family members in front of everyone, waving sono photos.

I am pg now, and I remember during the wks I was still being monitored by the RE, I always stuck my sono photos in my bag before going back to the waiting room to pay. How soon people forget what it's like to be on the other side of infertility.....

No flaming, ang I am not offended. But you'll soon see (actually I hope you never have to)sometimes finding child care for an hour or so-especially at 7AM is harder than you can imagine.

And yes- I brought my son to NSUH yesterday out of necessity-definately not choice- and their set up made it so much better. I only bumped into two women and that was like for a minute each. My butt never hit a waiting room chair.
