Re: For those who have been to Vegas...
I've stayed at The Mirage, Caesar's Palace, NY NY and The Palms. I liked them all, except The Palms because its off the strip and there was just something about it that i didn't like. I also love the Venetian, that's where i would stay if i ever go there for fun not work!

Re: For those who have been to Vegas...
Thanks for the input! Besides the gambling, is it a real expensive trip (i.e., food, drinks, entertainment)? We are used to going all inclusive, but the prices and airfare are crazy! Esp since we only spent $400 pp to fly to Mexico last year.

We were thinking of the NYNY. I think MGM is across the street.

You can definitely do Vegas on a budget, which is one of the reasons I have been there so many times! Especially if this is your first time there, there are a lot of free attractions to take advantage of. For splurges, I would say choose a show like "O" to see one night and have dinner at the Top of the World restaurant at sunset another.

Thanks! That makes me feel better about booking the trip. We just bought a house, so I wasn't sure if we should spend the money. I told DH that if we don't go now, we never will!

YUP,.. MGM is accross the street... NYNY is also very nice! you cant go wrong with either! MGM has so many different types of rooms... from affordable to upscale.. it just has alot in it.. being the largest hotel in vegas i believe.. so thats why we picked that one!

I stayed at the Mirage and loved it. It's pretty central on the strip.

Us too! We stayed at Paris and enjoyed our stay there tremendously! The location was perfect! The room was great! I would stay again-although I might "try" another just to see...probably the Venetian if I go back. My parents always stay there and LOVE IT!

I have stayed at Harrah's and the Flamingo...I LOVE the Flamingo's GO Delux room and it's in the middle of the strip so it's close to everything.......Vegas can be a beer budget vacation or a champagne extravaganza(?) I budget $200-$300 a day for gambling and extras. I pick 1 or 2 splurges...my mother and I are leaving on Sept 22-25 and our splurge will be dinner at AquaKnox and then the Phantom of the Opera at the Vennetian. I love Vegas and for me 4-5 days is plenty. Drinks and food can be pricey but there are deals to be had. Toby Keith's place at Harrah's is an AWSOME deal. 1 meal WILL feed 2 people EASILY.....Sign up for player cards at EVERY casino you go to because they will send you coupons for future trips. The buffets are pricey but so worth it. Also many hotels offer cafes and lighter fare open 24hrs that is reasonable. Call around to clubs and bars for any specials. Some places start charging the $20 cover at 9pm so get there at 8 to save $.....Also look for happy hour deals to save $ on drinks. I would get a travel book and do some internet searches.....FM if I can help anymore

Re: For those who have been to Vegas...
I stayed at the Monte Carlo on a business trip. I really liked it The staff was nice,t eh hotel was nice, and I liked the fact that it was quieter than some of the other casino hotels. You didn't get sensory overload walking through the lobby. It was classy.

Re: For those who have been to Vegas...
I have stayed at the Venetian and The Hotel at Mandalay Bay.
The Hotel is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. Dark woods, leather seating, beautiful all suite accomondations. And it was so quiet. The only disadvantage was that to get to the pool we had to walk far across Mandalay Bay and the casino floor. (note that The Hotel is almost like a separate hotel at Mandalay Bay and not part of the regular Mandalay Bay rooms.) Also, Mandalay is at the far end of the strip, so getting around without a car would have been difficult.
The Venetian was really nice too, we stayed there for our honeymoon. All suites. They had a nice pool area and great restaurants. It's right in the middle of the strip, so it's very convenient if you don't have a car. We could see the Mirage Volcano and TI Sirens show out our windows.

Re: For those who have been to Vegas...
I stayed at the venetian not a fan.
I have also stayed at Tropicana, harrahs and the Rio (Rio was our favorite it's off the strip). My friend lives there so must of the time we stayed with her
But anyway I would say most of the hotels mentioned are nice. You aren't there that much anyway
Make sure you hit downtown one night. And stay on the strip (not downtown)!
Harrahs has a shuttle (free you don't have to stay there to use it) that will take you to the Rio (I would recomend staying at Rio we loved it) The palms is by the Rio also.

Re: For those who have been to Vegas...
I recommend Paris, Ballys, Bellagio or Caesars because they are smack in the middle of the strip. Easy to get around. Paris and Ballys don't have great pools though which is the only downside.

Re: For those who have been to Vegas...
I was there once years ago and stayed at the Monte Carlo when it first opened...nice hotel but there wasn't much to it like some of the others that are there now. If I go back, I'd like to stay at either the Venetian, Paris, Palms, Hard Rock, etc...
