Special Education teachers - continuing ed?

A few questions- I have notes written down but forgot the details - I have to do 10% of 175 hours of continuing ed for the next 5 years - does that make sense?

Or, did I write it down wrong?

don't work in a school, I work FT in an agency, and am considered a special educator.

I have birth-grade 2, and 1-6 - do I need continuing ed for both certifications?

Where do you fill all those hours? What types of conferences give you the most bang for your buck, so to speak?

I am overwhelmed because I'm also a BCBA and need continuing ed for that as well!!!

I believe that is correct with the new certification regulations. You can do any kind of workshops or staff development activities. I believe there is a list on the NYSED website or check the NYSUT website as well. Look for workshops that interest you.

i am under the old guidelines, but i believe you all have to 175 hours in 5 years. since you are not in school (I believe you do EI or other work in the home?) i dont' know you all are supposed to do it...

but i know in my school, things like superintendent's conference days and faculty meetings count. i am sure if your agency has meetings for staff and other staff activities that you must participate in, all those things should count towards your hours.
