SLP's w/ their C's...question 4 U

I finished my CFY and I have the ASHA paperwork filled out. However, for financial reasons I put off joining ASHA and now my NSSLHA conversion discount expired. So now it's even more expensive. I work in a hospital that does not REQUIRE ASHA cert. I really need some convincing to join. Can someone give me a good reason to spend $500 for this??? I know it's more credible to have C's, but I am so unmotivated to shell out that kind of money right now.

hey!
i hear ya!! its annoying, isn't it?! i work at a school which also doesn't require ASHA cert... BUT for schools we need to have 100 hours of continuing education every 5 years. the ASHA is good with that becasue they have some free and cheap CEU programs. So thats why i join, its also nice to get the magazine and journal too just to keep up with whats going on in the speech world.
also.. i don't think it was $500 to be a member- i think mine was like $250 last year and that was with paying extra to be a member of the School special interest division.i know on the form, it has all these fees listed... but if you read really carefully, they're not all required. the main membership i think is like $200. still expensive but not as bad as $500! 500$??? No way.. that's not right??

I work in a school. So I just need NYS stuff, not asha. But I just feel like ASHA ccc's are the highest form of certification and I like to have them. Do they do anything for me? No? But they are a great lobbying body. Medicaid? Yeah.. that cap sucks and they are out there for us.

I like getting the Leader. I do feel like they keep track of our hours. hmm... I don't know.. I just pay the dues and never think about it.

I guess that wasn't much convincing!Chat Icon

It's $436-$486 if you are not eligible for the conversion rate (mine expired 8/2008).

ASHA List of Fees

Unbelievable I know.Chat Icon

I confirmed w/ the action center the cost and that I am not eligible anymore. Glad I paid for NSSLHA all those yearsChat Icon

ETA: It should be $436 for me. The guy at the action center said $486 for some reason. I do have a few days to get it in prior to the 12 month periodChat Icon
