anyone been observed already?
I was so annoyed when the AP walked into my room Thursday unannounced. It was the one day so far where I "slacked off" a bit by not having a thorough lesson. The kids had a quiz the next day so we were playing bingo to review . I also didn't have a very productive do now activity and to make things worse I think my students actually behaved WORSE with him being there! He said he wasn't going to write it up and is coming in next week sometime to the same period. So now I'm stressing about making all my lessons perfect for next week. Ugh!

I hate that 
My AP does his observations unannounced & it's always the day when I'm most tired or have a not so great lesson or the kids acting up. He never comes in on a good day.
I'm sure it will be fine. At least he told you what period to expect him so you can tell the kids ahead of time that THEY'RE going to be watched one day so they need to participate, behave, etc. And hopefully he'll come in early in the week so you won't have to stress about it anymore.

I had an "informal" observation the other day- but was tipped off the day before.
My formal observation is scheduled (thankfully) for next week.

Yep last week. I actually invited my AP in because I havd a great tiered lesson and that is my schools focus this year.

first week, I had two APs sit in. Week after the principal came in. I've had my math coach sit in. My mentor sit in. And our math aussie sit in.
I guess that's the way it goes as a first year teacher. Our school is big on observations of the entire staff...not just newbies. We're a new school.
(Sheesh, I hope it's not because they think I'm incompetant!  )

My formal is next month.
My principal hates anything paperwork related and wants to get them over with. I'm happy to comply.
Informals aren't big in my school, fortunately. I am still having a tough time with both of my classes.

how many observations does a teacher get per year?
to the OP sorry it didnt go great, im sure you'll do great next week.
and that's ALL you guys need to add to your plate of things to prep for.

Yup. I definitely prefer announced, but after Friday any day or time is fair game.

I'm sorry, but I'm giggling at this thread, b/c I know I'm going to jinx myself, but my AP and P NEVER even walk around the building, let alone pop in. It seems that every other school has a "normal" admin, but not mine. I'm sooooo lucky.
