Oh I just LOVED this
I get an email yesterday from BM with a list of dates that SD is off from school in the coming months. She writes "Let me know which days you are planning to take off of work to watch SD."
Ummm...hmmmm... How about none? Which days are YOU planning on taking off of work? I asked DH about it and he knew nothing about it. She didn't ask him or send him this email.
I just think it was a bit presumptive of her to not even discuss it with me and to just assume that I would be willing to take off of work. I have never done that before. I also really love that she didn't even ASK me...it was more of a "FYI and I'll be courteous enough to let you get first dibs".
I have a really stressful, demanding job with high billing requirements. I also have a bit of a workaholism problem too. I take off one week per year for vacation and that is it. She knows all of this.
I realize this is my SD and if I want to be accepted as a "parent" of sorts, I need to take the good with the bad but maybe the actual parents should take time off of their jobs first before I should have to. The best part about it is, BM has a job with the gov't so she gets tons of vacation time and DH has a ton of vacation time left too!
It makes no sense. You know what else doesn't make sense to me? What is wrong with getting a babysitter? I used to have babysitters and I LOVED it. Why does everyone have to take off of work?

I agree with this. Let your DH and BM work it out between the 2 of them, and just be there if DH needs you

Re: Oh I just LOVED this
I can understand her asking you if you could watch her any of the days...but informing you is an entirely different matter.
Hey at least she'll let you watch her child. The BM over here would sooner leave her child with Pee Wee Herman then leave them with me...apparently she questions my parenting skills.. ...which is fine b/c I dont need any extra kids around when the kids have off from school any way...

I agree, the child care during time off should be discussed between the 2 parents, if you had offered to take some time off to spend with her then that would be a different story.
How did you respond?

I just wrote her back and said that I couldn't take the time off of work but if she was stuck, I would ask if my mother could help her out and to let me know.
Heather - every time I see the pic in your avatar, I totally crack up! That is so funny!

Re: Oh I just LOVED this
That was a nice response and at least you offered some help with SD.
At least she communicates with you. BM over here has never acknowledged me except to say negative things about me to SD.
