An Update of Sorts
So, I've been lurking here and there without much time to post - but I finally have a second to update my situation.
I had a screening interview on LI while I was at my NYC school. Went on the interview to see what would happen - the interview went well...I was called back for a panel interview, class demo and superintendent interview and.... I got the job!!!!
I was able to tell the jack arse who hired me as a teacher then put me in as a sub w/benefits - though no such thing exists in NYC that he could find a new teacher for my class. I told my students and they were sad, but understood.
I am so happy to have earned two jobs this year without having to use any connections - it makes me feel really good about myself as a teacher and as a person!
so I wanted to thank you for all of your support when I was having a hard time with my NYC position.
So, that's my update....now to the grocery store I go...lol

I am beyond estatic for you!!!!!!!
Is you new school close to home? And what grade will you be teaching?
I know it was sad to leave those kids after 2 months, but career-wise it was a good move for you.

Really? personally, I don't base my worth as a person or a teacher on the way I conduct my job search. I prefer to focus on things I am doing for my kids, the way that I am making a difference in the lives in the students in my class, and the way I generally try to have a positive impact on the world.
By the way, I got my teaching job WITH connections.

Wow, that seems harsh and unnecessary. I'm sure she agrees with your statement above, but is also proud of herself for getting a job without connections. It is, undoubtedly, harder to do.

I'm sorry you took personal offense to my opinion...I'd like to note, that I didn't do the job search, both principals found me, but whatever - that is not the point...The point I was making, is that the way I've handled myself as a teacher in the past has reflected so well that I earned both jobs without asking anyone of my contacts to put me in touch with a principal who wouldn't have looked for me otherwise. It isn't just my interviewing style that the panels were impressed with, it is how I've related to my students, their families and my community which spoke volumes about my teaching style. Both principals contacted my former principals and my references were genuine and glowing.
Again, I'm sorry you took offense to my excitement - I didn't say anything negative about how anyone else found their positions. I was merely stating that I was proud of MYSELF for making it to the top of a long list of very qualified individuals.
