Re: Any feedback on Winthrop Hospital?
My DH works there, and knowing what he knows from the "inside," I wouldn't hesitate to go there should I need to go to the hospital. In fact, when I broke my hand last year, I drove half an hour to go to Winthrop rather than go to my nearest hospital.
Sorry I don't know more than that, but he works in the ICU and has seen it all and knows that it's a good hospital, so your DH is in good hands.
Best of luck to you both!

Re: Any feedback on Winthrop Hospital?
I think Winthrop is excellent. I was there for two stays a while back.
My doc is affiliated.
Good luck to Jake!

One of my surgeons is the head Ortho Surgeon there. He's great and was trained by my other amazing surgeon. If I go through with my back surgery, I'll be having it there as well.

Re: Any feedback on Winthrop Hospital?
thanks everyone
it's the same doctor as last time- so I am not worried about that
but they were so mean to Jake at LIJ - they wouldn't give him a pillow when he was in the recovery room (he snores so he had to stay there instead of getting a room)
finally a nice nurse came on 12 hours later and got him a pillow and a TV- but still
he was so uncomfortable and in so much pain- and no pillow-
so I am hoping this is a better experince

you should talk to them about putting him in a room by himself. If the floor is not full then they can do that.
I was in a room by myself for two days there. My brother was in a room by himself in another hospital as well just because they weren't full.
Hey, if they can do it, you should ask.
I think you just have to be your own advocate when in the hospital.

Re: Any feedback on Winthrop Hospital?
good idea
I will ask when I go back in a few
he should be out of the operating room in about an hour
I ran out of things to do- so I went to work- I can't sit there, I start to freak out!

Both my ped. and family dr. said LIJ is no longer what it used to be...Winthrop is the hospital to go to now.

Based on our experinces I agree This is a million times better then lij Same doc - same operation. But the way jake is being treated is like day and night
Even the parking situation - there were no spots in the front parking lot this morning - and they took my car anyway for free! And he held a spot b/c I told him I was coming back
Jake is in half the pain he was in last time. And they gave him his own room

Re: Any feedback on Winthrop Hospital?
My father had his open heart surgery there and they were phenomenal. His team of surgeons were amazing (but they were hand picked by him). The nursing staff, particularly in the ICU, were also amazing. The care he received was top notch.
Several years ago, my uncle had the same surgery there and also had excellent care.
In between these two, my cousin's premature baby (3 months early and 2lbs) was born at Winthrop and lived in the NICU for 3 months. Again, the care was amazing.
I wouldn't hesitate going to Winthrop.

Re: Any feedback on Winthrop Hospital?
I liked them.. The nurses were so good to me. (the day ones at least) I was in for 2 1/2 days with my surgery and I wasnt planning on staying. I didn't have a bad experience overall but some of the nurses I could have done without!!!

Re: Any feedback on Winthrop Hospital?
only 1 issue
the nurse wasn't giving Jake all his pain medicine last night
but it was marked off on his chart when he asked the day nurse about it
nice....
luckily he came home today at 1pm and was not in alot of pain considering (he says 1/10th of the amount of last time)
