Ours was $50. Wondering if that's the norm.

I always wonder where it really goes.

Re: How much did your school collect for VoteCope?

my district was $50.00 as well. i see why they collect and i don't mind too much, but what realyl bothers me is our union dues. in my district, i have no idea what we even get for our dues. in NYC, they have a kikc-*** welfare fund where their dues pay for dental, Rx and vision as well as amazing teacher centers. not sure what my small district does with the $40.00 something they pull from every paycheck!! Re: How much did your school collect for VoteCope?

Our is $60

This money goes for lobbying efforts. 60% of the money goes back to your local (teacher's union) for lobbying such as helping to pass the local school board budget. The other 40% is used by NYSUT for lobbying the state legislatures and etc...This money will come in handy during this time of budget cuts on the state level.

mine is $3 a pay check. I didn't want to contribute but my union president hunted me down over and over again until i filled out the form. So much for it being optional.

I do the $5 per check. I also felt sort of pressured but I do think it's important, especially for DOE teachers. I have a very bad feeling about what will happen if/when Bloomberg wins that third term. Washington DC's chancellor is going after tenure and if she succeeds, it could be very bad for us in NYC (and that's not to say that I think tenure is always a good thing, but getting rid of it altogether would be bad for us.)

Can I ask why some of you opt to not participate in Vote Cope?

I do $2.50 a paycheck, so it totals $60 a year.
