My latest baking project...
I work in a lab that studies bird hearing, and we're having a lab Christmas party tomorrow. So I decided to make a zebra finch cake, since those are the birds that I work with in the lab. The cake is cherry chip with a chocolate mousse filling.

Haha, it was from a box  It is Betty Crocker brand. It is vanilla cake with cherry flavored bits in it.

I also work in a lab.... a while ago, it was a goldfish lab... so a tradition began for the holidays.... FISHMAS!
so, thursday is our fishmas party. we have a mini christmas tree covered with fish ornaments, our pet goldfish's tank is decorated (he's been a lab 'member' for 8 years!), we eat goldfish crackers along with other foods, and frequently people bring in fish desserts similar to your finch cake 
and yep, we wish each other a merry fishmas (and a happy fishmukkah)

That's totally cute! Lab life is so weird. We have a cheesy Christmas tree too and for some reason we put rubber fish on it. Along with other stuff. I have no idea why. But your post reminded me of the rubber fish.

Me too! Until I started working with them. Now I love them and have some as pets.
Yup, this is the first cake where I tried to make it into something and not just write "Happy Birthday" or something like that on the top.

That is so cute!!! Did you use your new bowls when baking?
I wanted to use the big one to mix the base frosting color, but I needed a bigger bowl since it was a whole can of frosting.
But I'm making a bundt cake this weekend and pouring it into my new cottage shaped pan. I'm going to decorate it like a gingerbread house. So I'm sure I'll use those bowls to hold all the candy and stuff for the toppings.

My daughter picked this flavor and we were so excited. It sort of tastes like vanilla cake with little bits of cough medicine running through it. Just our opinion but I thought I would let you know just in case.

So we had the cake today. I was thinking the same thing! But since there is a chocolate mouse middle, it is pretty good. Not sure I'd like it if it were plain though. But everyone loved it so I'm sure the chocolate filling helped.
