Fun multiplication activities, please!

I teach a class of 6 grade special ed students. They are having a very difficult time with their multiplication skills.

Aside from making flashcards, what are some fun multiplication activities I can do with them?

FYI - We already do multiplication Bingo Chat Icon

Do you play Buzz? they sit in a circle and count by the number of the multiplication table you are practicing and the person who gets that number or its multiple has to say buzz or they are out. for example for the 4 times table it would be: 1, 2, 3, buzz, 5, 6, 7, buzz, etc

Re: Fun multiplication activities, please!

i also do lots of games... look on-line, i am sure there are some.

I do Multiplication pizza... i make a pizza pie with 12 toppings (one for each table). i photocopy sheets for each table.... to fill in a topping and move on to the next one, they have to Master all the facts for that table on the worksheet... they love it. i usually do a pizza party for them at the end. this however, is an endeavor that takes a few months. when ever i have five minutes extra, i say Pizza time... they get their pizza folders and tell me what worksheet they need and we go from there.

i also make lamniated multiplication charts for all of them. honestly, i find by letting them use them by constantly referring to them, they get it.

i also do a lot of work with multiples.... couting by 2's 3's, etc. that also reinforces.

Multiplication baseball

Line up three chairs which will stand for 1,2 and 3rd bases-YOU will be home base

*You choose 2 students
*They start behind first base
*You hold up flash card and whoever answers first moves ahead
*First one to get to you wins that round and then you choose another student to go against the winner
-----------------------------------------------
Multiplication Relay
*Makes two lines of students (these represent teams)
*Match students with equal multiplication knowledge (I usually don't let them know why they are matched up)
*Hold up the flash card whoever gets the fact they get the card
*When everyone has gone the teams count up the cards and whoever has the most wins

I hope you can picture how these games would be played from my explanationsChat Icon

Thanks, I know this game and play it with them! I forgot to mention this game along with the Bingo...

Unfortunately this game is not as much fun with my class as it could be, because they have a hard time paying attention and many of them get out very quickly Chat Icon When I used to sub I would play this game with other classes and the kids would get SO into it and competitive! My class is not like that, with this game.

Oooo this sounds interesting. I would have to modify it because I have 12 kids in my entire class! Thanks for the idea!

I do this as well. I find especially for the 6, 7, and 8 times tables it helps the kids to be able to sequence count. TouchMath has songs for each number 1-9 that teaches the kids to sequence count by that number. I use if 3-5 and even my 5th graders love it. The songs really help

Trashketball...you can actually do it for anything, it's an incentive for them to learn.
