Today was my Daddy's funeral

I'm so depressed.
When he was sick in the hospital it was terrible seeing him like that.
When he died it was a relief that he wouldn't have to endure it anymore.
At the wake, and the funeral this morning, I had family and friends around so I felt okay.

But when I'm alone like right now, I just feel such an emptiness in my heart, that I'll never hear his voice or his laugher again, we'll never have our great talks or go for a walk together, I'll never be able to turn to him for advice, he'll never drop by and sit on the couch with me, we'll never have dinner together, I'll never see him in person again.....
There are so many things I'll miss and thinking about the happy memories or looking at pictures of the good times is actually making me feel more sad for the person I'll be missing the rest of my life.

He really is a great dad, we were very close and I was very lucky.

Re: Today was my Daddy's funeral

It sounds like you had a great relationship with your Dad. I know how much it sucks, I lost my Dad in March. I think the funeral was one of the hardest days along with some others.

It is coming up to 11 months and from what I hear, the first year is the hardest. I know right now it doesn't seem to help. But what helped me is having such great memories and knowing that my Dad knew how much we all loved him. When it comes to my Dad I have no regretts other then wanting more time with him. If you ever need to vent or talk you can FM me.

Re: Today was my Daddy's funeral

I know exactly how you feel. Being back home while everyone moves on with their routine is the hardest of all.

I had a wonderful talk with my father before he passed, and while everyone says it should comfort me more, it seems to be making it harder for me.

Everyone keeps telling me with their words or their eyes that it was best, a relief, that now he is at peace and we can move on. And that kills me the most because it overlooks the very real, raw, gutteral pain and sadness I'm experiencing over his loss.

I will miss my Daddy to pieces, as I know you will too Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I could have written your post myself. It is exactly how I felt after my father died. April 2009 will be six years without him. It does get better. As time goes on, it will hurt less. It never goes away 100% but it becomes a part of you and you will be able to go on.

Re: Today was my Daddy's funeral

So sorry about your loss. I know exacly what you are feeling as I lost my dad a little over a year ago. It is still so surreal that he is gone. No more talks, no more playing with my kids, no more helping DH and I around the house. Its the worse thing I've ever experienced and I think I still live in denial. And I'm still angry that cancer infiltrating my life and I feel such a sadness that I never knew existed. For me one of the worst parts is how life just goes on. I hate that. I wanted the world to stop. But it does get easier. That I promise you. I think of my dad often and am still filled with deep sadness but it doens't affect my life 24/7 like it used to.

Remember the memories and the good times and the great relationship you had with him.
