Re: Multiple Sclerosis Q
I found out because I lost vision in my left eye. I went to get glasses and they sent me for a MRI. The vision loss was my only symptom so it was shocking. I was referred to a neurologist and he confirmed the dx and he said I has probably had it for a few years. He put me on IV steriods which repaired my vision.
I now am on a drug therapy which hopefully will keep the flare ups to a minimum.

HTH I am sorry Thank you so much for replying and sharing. Very close friend of mine just told me yesterday that she has head aches, tingling in her fingers and loses feeling in her finger just for a second. I had no idea, she never told me and she says it's been going on for over a year now. she hasn't been to a dr yet. When she told me about the symptoms MS was the first thing I thought of, but then again it could be nothing. Thanks again

Re: Multiple Sclerosis Q
My good friend had a tingling sensation down one entire side of her body. She lost feeling in the hand and foot on that side of her body.
She was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed after a battery of tests. They believe she also had it for a number of years already, and had probably already had some episodes - she just didn't recognize them.
She is on medication that has been doing a very good job of keeping her flare-ups few and far between.
Note that there is more than one type of MS. Not all cases of MS are progressive. People with Relapsing Remitting MS (the most common type of MS), for example, can and often do lead relatively normal lives, have children, etc.

Re: Multiple Sclerosis Q
My sister has it and it was almost exactly like Kara's friend.
Her arms and legs kept going numb.
An MRI of spine and brain showed plaque.
It's a really hard disease to definitively diagnose because it manifests itself so many different ways.

Re: Multiple Sclerosis Q
My mother has it. She lost vision in one eye when she was in her 20s, but it came back. She then had a couple of seizures a few years later. They told her then that they suspected MS, but at the time they didn't have the technology for confirming it that they have now. She had no other symptoms after that.
Then about 10 years ago she started getting a tingling feeling in her lower back & her legs. Slowly, she started having difficulty walking because she can't feel her legs. She had an MRI which confirmed what the doctors had suspected years earlier.

Re: Multiple Sclerosis Q
my SIL has MS. She went to the dr. because she had a tingling / numb feeling in her arm and he did some tests and told her it was MS. Someone else I know of was diagnosed because she was brought to the hospital after she crashed her car. Her foot went numb and she couldn't feel the brake.
