Vacation
So, when you go on vacation, do you go to "adult only" resorts or places that tend to have less kids (ie: Vegas) or just go where you like and try and find the quiet spots?

Re: Vacation
We are actually leaving thurs for a long vacation 18 days Whenever we travel we go for more than 2 weeks at a time.
We are going on a celebrity cruise, we prefer this line because it tends to be more couples and less kid oriented.
We are also going to disney which is very family and kid oriented but we love disney so much, its not that i dont like kids, i really do, its just i am not sure i am ready for the responsibility.
We are also going to boca and spending some times with our grandparents as well, and also going to the orlando convention center for a home automation show.
so i would say we are doing a mix we never want to avoid kids altogether

Re: Vacation
We go where we want to go. However, we've learned to avoid vacationing during school vacation weeks and the last week of August.
We just got back from Vegas and it continually amazes me how many people bring their babies and kids to Vegas. I don't get it.

Re: Vacation
In the past few years DH and I have only done all inclusive resorts for our "big" vacations -- and I have to say, we've leaned more towards the resorts that are adults only vs. kid friendly.
Our first AI together to Cancun we went to one resort that was VERY family friendly and it was very annoying at times. We had no idea that it was so family friendly, or else we would not have gone there. There were so many families with kids there, the pool area was VERY overcrowded and because each member of the family would want their own chair, if you didn't put a towel down at about 7am--you didn't get a spot near the pool. Tons of kids splashing water and running around.

Re: Vacation
DH is a teacher, so we can't avoid going away on school holidays or during the summer. We do try to stick to locations that are more adult-oriented...Las Vegas (although it still shocks me how many people bring their small children here), South Beach, etc. For our honeymoon, we went to Maui and Kauai...there were plenty of children, but we did try to stick to activities that were geared towards adults. Both of the hotels that we stayed at had adults-only pools, so that is where we stayed if we were not on the beach.

Re: Vacation
Now that you mention it, I think we do seek out non family friendly vacation spots. Allot of spas, casinos, golf courses or party spots. But not intentionally.

Re: Vacation
DH and I just go wherever we want and have never done the "adults only" resorts or anything like that, but I think because we don't have kids, we CAN go do things that are not as child-friendly (i.e. Vegas, long road trips, cruise excursions that require strenuous activity, going out to party at night in a new city rather than doing family-friendly activities during the day). We don't intentionally seek out places where children will not be, but we find ourselves there sometimes just because of our own interests at this point in our lives.

Re: Vacation
Last big trip we went on was to Bermuda and I guess since it's a typical cruise port, it didn't seem to be frequented by families.
We don't seek that out on purpose. But we do like destinations with water closeby and good shopping & restaurants.
What about Hershey Park?

Re: Vacation
we have been to an adults only resort...Sandals Bahamas, but we weren't married at the time
We do have the luxury of travelling outside of school vacations, and generally plan our trips then. Last year we spent 2 weeks in CA in mid September
This year we are headed to Niagara Falls in May
Every where is less crowded, the rates are lower, and there are no bored / screaming / hyper / spoilt children to deal with

Re: Vacation
Never been to an adults only resort. We do a lot of research to make sure the hotel isn't popular with families. I prefer to read my book on the beach or lounge in the pool without having sand or water kicked at me or kids screaming. A for non beach vacays we try to make sure the hotel is geared toward adults, business people, ect...

We just go wherever we want. We dont go out of our way to only look for adult only locations. It usually depends on where we're going and the cost.

Re: Vacation
I definitely tend to look for more adult like places to vacation, not so much family oriented places.

Re: Vacation
As a PP said - we usually do a celebrity cruise due to the lack of children. Our friends with kids just joked with us that we should go on a Disney cruise.
We also try to not vacation during the summer, or school vacation weeks.
We usually pick what we want to do - and it usually turns out that those activities usually don't have that many kids around, or if they do we'll try to isolate ourselves (sit on the end of the beach, not the middle.) The thought of going to Disney makes me.
We did goto Universal Studios last year - but again on a regular week, during the week when school was in session. There were a couple here or there - and due to the fact that the rides there are more adult than kid oriented they weren't 'swarming' everywhere.

Well when we're in the Caribbean, I prefer adult only resorts. Other places you dont' really have control.

Re: Vacation
It doesnt really matter to us. I mean we stick to each other anyway but last year when we went to Jamaica in our resort there was a kiddie fest. DH is a teacher and we spent most of our time on the beach so it really did not bother us.

Re: Vacation
We do both but I prefer less kids.
I went to a Beaches resort once for a wedding and that is geared towards families and it was bit much with tons of kids and Sesame Street characters running around.
I prefer Sandal's - couples only and Vegas was great.
Cruises can be hit or miss- depending on the time of year..

We just go where we want but I wouldn't book a Beaches resort that is geared towards families if I could help it.
We've stayed at Sandals before and really enjoyed it but we just went to Disney World and the kids didn't bother me at all.

Re: Vacation
My vacations have been on either end of the spectrum...Disney or New Orleans. You can't get more kid oriented then Disney nor less kid oriented with NOLA.

Re: Vacation
we go where ever but we AVOID family resorts. I went to disney and stayed at a family resort instead of a regular hotel outside of the disney chain and ran into issues. Dh and I were listening to the little feet running up and down hallways at 6 a.m. - sat by the pool and got splashed and squirted with water guns, etc.

Disney needs an adult only hotel. I love Disney but hate that you can't enjoy the pool...even at 11:00pm the kids run amuck!!

Oh yea because the parents are dead tired of dealing with them (not every parent just stating there a number of them) and just drop them off at the pool unsupervised so I have to deal with them.
