Working at night

Hi Everyone. No kids yet but DH and I are contemplating future family finances. I would love to be SAHM but with this economy and the high cost of living on LI, I don't know how this is possible. Daycare is $$$ so I'm thinking of working nights so I can stay home with a baby. Any suggestions of companies to work for that are open 24/7? Am I kidding myself? TIA.

Just one question - when will you sleep? If you're home and up with a baby all day and then working at night, I think you could be setting yourself up to burn out VERY quickly.

Residential centers/apartment programs for the mentally ill and at-risk teens.
Group homes for MR/DD.

Keep in mind though that these are usually overnight "awake" positions but a lot more relaxed and laid back than the 9-5 or 4-12 shifts.

Pay is also significantly less than most other jobs out there but that's one of the trade-offs.

My stepdaughter's Mom is working nights at a hospital while her husband works during the day. She "tries" to sleep for a few hours when my SD gets home from school & can watch her 3 year old brother. I don't think she gets more than 4-5 hours of sleep a day. Plus her & her husband are on completely opposite schedules. She's doing it for financial reasons & in the hopes that after working there a while she maybe able to get better hours.
I know it has been a big strain on their entire household.
