Good Source for HS Math Tutors

I need to get Brandon a math tutor but the price I was given seemed a bit steep. Is $80hr the going rate? Where else could I look for one

Re: Good Source for HS Math Tutors

Did you ask his teacher for a rec? My husband is a hs teacher, and while he hasn't tutored in awhile, I don't think the teachers at his school charge that much, but I'm not sure. He's also in a different department too.

Re: Good Source for HS Math Tutors

i think it depends. in my district ELEMENTARY teachers are charging $75, which, even I feel is a lot.

i would ask around. also check in the pennysaver and places like that. a lot of teachers post there. also, why not give hofstra or other local colleges a call. i am sure there may be some college students interested in tutoring for much less.

Re: Good Source for HS Math Tutors

I agree with the poster who suggested finding a tutor at a local college like Hofstra.

What I DON'T suggest is finding another student at his school to be a tutor. This is coming from experience. I vividly remember my HS days when my mom asked my teacher to rec a student from the school to come tutor me. Whenever I saw that student around the halls, etc, I felt so embarassed. I did EXTREMELY poorly in math and constantly walked around on edge worried that this girl would tell people how stupid I was in math.

I guess your post just brought back memories Chat Icon I feel for your son, I had a lot of difficulty understanding the math when I was in HS. Chat Icon Don't ask me how I teach it Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Good Source for HS Math Tutors

In my district we charge 70 but having friends in other districts, we are supposedly "cheap".
