Thanks.

Thanks for all of the honest advice. Today is a new day, I've calmed down, I'm just going to go and not mention it. I think I was more embarrassed about it than anything. I appreciate the responses.

If you really like your doctor and feel he/she will be the one to deliver your babies, then keep the appointment. BUT...you should say something to the doctor when you go in.

That's the thing, I have every intention of going to SB Midwives when I'm pregnant, which is why I didn't mind just going somewhere else for now.

Re: Upset-Do I still keep my appointment? (long)

I had this happen once to me in the past. I went to the appt and told my dr that I was not happy with the way I was treated on the phone and how what I called for was never taken care of. She was not happy. After the exam she told that staff in front of everyone that this is not to happen when someone calls with a question it is to be taken care of and call back must be made.

I would definitely say something to your doctor. Admit that you know you made the call last minute, but you were a little upset because of the way you were spoken to, and inconvenienced because they forgot to call in your prescription.

Re: Upset-Do I still keep my appointment? (long)

I might be in the minority here and get flamed for this but if you're on BC and you know you're getting to the end of your pills and you need an appointment in order to get your scrip refilled why would you repeatedly schedule your appointment so your scrambling at the last minute to get your perscription filled before your acutal appointment? I was on BC for over 10 years and honestly, I never had my scrip run out before my annual visit nor did I schedule it when I had my period. To this day that's NEVER happened.

I think the bigger problem here is you. I think you need to be more on top of your cycle so you schedule your appointment when you don't have your period and before your scrip runs out. This is not your doctors office's problem.

I understand things happen and you forget but you said this has happened before and they've given you the courtesy of filling your script before your appointment. They don't have to do that for you so IMO for you to be angry in the least bit with the docs office and not yourself is really unwarrented.

As for keeping your appointment unless you currently have your period, I would not cancel and I wouldn't say boo about what transpired.

Actually, I schedule my appointments 6 months in advance, usually at the last appointment. It's coincidental that it has been the week of my period, and I do change it well in advance. I try to change it to the week before my period, and they always reschedule it the week after. I don't keep track of my cycle 6 months in advance, so I usually realize it about a month before my appointment. Since they schedule my appointments at the end of the 6 month prescription, I have to call it in.

I would not have been upset if they no longer filled it over the phone, I was more upset that they told me they would fill it and then didn't.

It's only happened about three times. You're entitled to your opinion, and I did feel bad calling on a Friday afternoon. Thanks for your honest input.

I wouldn't judge one secretary/receptionists attitude on the office as a whole. I would mention to the MD when you get there what happened.

I had a similar thing happen to me and I wound up making my appt in the fifth month to make time for errors or 'issues'. Then every six months to keep up.

Midwives can usually do well women care too & prescribe BC. You may be able to start seeing them now.

If I knew my period was coming that week I would have called earlier in the week for the script and to change the appt. Thats just me though. Considering how last minute it was, it stinks that they forgot to call it in, but mistakes happen. This stuff will happen occasionally at all offices. Worse came to worse and the pharmacy wouldn't fill it, you could call the doctor and have them call it in, even on a weekend. I wouldn't leave a Dr because of this of this unless I was unhappy with the medical care.

Re: Upset-Do I still keep my appointment? (long)

I'd stop scheduling my appointments for 6 months in advance if it is causing issues. That said- if you're on BC- you should be able to gauge when you'll have your period since the pill regulates it. It's a pain and requires a little extra time to figure it out, but you'll avoid having to reschedule.

Sorry- I have to agree with Jennie on this- you were in the wrong, should keep your appointment and not say anything.

BTW- it is possible that the doctor's office called but the pharmacy messed up.

I don't understand why you'd consider not going to the appointment - I don't get what the receptionist or pharmacy screwing up has to do with keeping your scheduled appt.

If it were me, when I sign in I would mention that after calling on Fri to get the Rx called in, the pharmacy didn't have it for me when I went to pick up but luckily they were willing to fill it.

Just an FYI- I use the SB Midwives for all my gyn care, including BC. You could switch to them now, if you wanted to.Chat Icon
