Moving to North Carolina?

Anyone on here who moved from NY to NC? We're talking about it but I don't know if I could ever get used to it.

DH's family moved near Charlotte.
5BR house = $210,000.
Lots of great shopping nearby.
Good schools.
Nice area.

Just curious how others have adjusted.

Re: Moving to North Carolina?

A beautiful home, simpler life, lower cost of living. It's like a dream come true. But I'm still nervous about making a move like that. My biggest issue is jobs. I work for a hospital and DH and local bank so it's not like either of us could just transfer, we'd both have to find new jobs.

The Charlotte area is so pretty. DH & I married Sept. of 07 and we have been trying to move to Charlotte, NC ever since. Since we dont' have alot of $ in the bank, we need to have secure employment first. We thought DH's job would've have transferred him by the Spring of 08, but with the economy going down the tubes that didn't happen. We are so upset that it didn't. Unemployment is very high there now. I've been to NC about 5 times in the last few years and go visit friends every few months, so if you have any ?S let me know. To answer your ?, the adjustment takes awhile for some people, but you manage.

Re: Moving to North Carolina?

We are moving to GA as soon as DH gets a job down there. (hopefully within this year) They only reason we are concidering it is b/c I have family there already and my parents are moving there in a few years also. His parents are going wherever we are once they retire.

Its important for us to be around family.

Its a different way of life down south, but not necessarily bad.

We thought about it..what do we really do here. We dont go to nyc, broadway or anything. We go to the mall, target, walmart and the occasional dinner out. We can do the same thing there, but more often b/c we will have more money to spend.

To us, as long as we have a nice house that we can afford in a good neighborhood w/ good schools for our kids, and have family near, we will be happy.

Unfortunately, we can never afford that in NY.

ETS: as far as adjustment: my aunt, uncle and cousin moved to GA a few years ago. My uncle said it was as if he was on vacation for like 6 months. He was always thinking- when are we going home. But after 6 months or so, he said he would never ever go back to ny.

we have family in Charlotte and 2 years ago, we ALMOST put a deposit down on a brand new townhome. To this day, I wonder what our life would have been like.

NC is gorgeous, growing very quickly, everything is new. I think that in the future, we will end up in GA or NC Chat Icon

Thanks-----these homes are freaking gorgeous. It's amazing that for 200,000 you can get a brand new home in a nice community. Very motivating!!!!

Lake Norman is home to many super hot NASCAR drivers. It is definatley beautiful!!!

DH and I would like to come back east and NC is an area of interest. I've only been there on vacation but, my GF moved there from NY and she loves it. But, she married a sugar daddy and spends her day with her personal trainer and her tanning bed-LOL

I just worry that by the time we sell our house here and get down there NC won't be the same. Every state get hot (like everyone from NY was moving to NJ, then FL, AZ) and right now NC is hot. I'm afraid it might raise the home prices. Does anyone else think like this?

Hiiiii! Maybe we can be neighbors one day (if we ever get moved there for DH's job!)

Anyway yes I agree with you! My parents want to move there too but not for like 10 years but they dont want to miss the boat!

This is something we have been talking about a lot lately. Better quality of life, lower cost of living, i could basically be a SAHM, its just we wouldnt have ANYONE there. Being away from family makes me VERY nervous!!

Re: Moving to North Carolina?

I moved from NYC to NC 2 years ago this August and love it! It was definitely an adjustment but you get used to it and can always go back to visit. I go back alot and see my family / friends!

We bought a beautiful condo in Clemmons (1 hr from Lake Norman where inlaws are) and considering moving out towards CLT but not sure yet! Chat Icon
