Yep, I should be happy I have a job

I am now working for 4 people. I was working for one, then 3 and now 4. 3 out of 4 of them require heavy support.

And more to come I hear. My boss (big boss) offered me some temp help.

That was nice..no thanks, keep paying me OT and I will keep working.

I may just work from home a bit..

I'm a bit miffed. But still very happy to have a job.

what's that T-shirt? Hate your job?...Fake it.

eta: and my boss' boss has an assistant..she works just for him. I feel like I'm getting the short end.

Not asking for advice..just wanted to vent and get it out.

ThanksChat Icon

Re: Yep, I should be happy I have a job

I'm working about 80 hour a week on an insanely HUGE case -- extremely high pressure, high stress. People keep telling me how great it is that I'm busy. I want to slap them.

Yes, I'm with you - sooooo happy I have a good job... but that doesn't mean that the added stress, hours, etc. don't go unnoticed and don't affect me.

Hope it gets better for you soon. Chat Icon

Re: Yep, I should be happy I have a job

Years ago, right after 9/11, when I was looking for a new job because I hated mine, a friend of mine kept saying that - "be happy you have a job." I hated it! I understand the concept, but it's like saying you're complaining you have a job - and you're not. Sorry!!!

I don't have a job and I don't find ANY offense in people complaining about a job they have - everyone goes through those periods and just because people need to vent, it doesn't mean they are being inconsiderate. Chat Icon

I feel your pain, I really do. I'm miserable but yeah, I've got a job and the pay is OK.

My brother is married, two kids, a mortgage and a degree - he's been unemployeed for awhile now and is looking at becoming a bus driver.

He's gotta pay the bills somehow...

So yeah, I'm grateful I have a job but it still SUCKS.

Hang in there! Chat Icon

I totally get what you're saying and am sorry you have to deal with your job situation.

Employers these days are just trying to milk their employees. Their attitude is 'you should be glad you're not laid off' so just s*ck up and stop whining.

My DH's company just went through a 2nd round of layoffs and everyone who remained got their pay reduced by 10%. The bosses had the gall to hint that everyone need to pitch in and do more, for less pay!

Just wait until the recession ends, there's going to be alot of turnover when that happens.

this is common practice these days, and it sucks!

more responsibility for the same pay - or even less pay.

I cannot wait for this economy to improve!

Sorry you are going through this!!! I can relate.

I know what you mean though..........I belong to another message board where it seems the majority of the posters are out of work. It's like walking on eggshells over there if you have a vent about work because that's usually the first thing out of people's mouths!

no we didn't. Honestly, I would rather not bring on someone we would have to let go later. There are some other underworked assistants around and that was offered to me as well. If I did really need the help then I would go that route.

The reason this is happening is because my boss takes on a lot of responsibility and lots of folks report to her. As she gets more people involved in projects, I get busier because these people need support for their work and most of the meetings come from her office meaning her calendar.

So I get requests from other people to set up meetings from my boss. It's so weird makes me nuts.

I'm employed and thankful. This is a whole new ball game.

Do what I did. Casually "look" for another job.

It doesn't hurt to just look just to see what's out there.

My current job started pissin' me off slightly. So I looked. Went on an interview. Would have been offered the job, but they couldn't pay me what I was looking for.

I felt good about myself. I am still with my current job and not currently looking.

my job relocated an hour away and I keep hearing be happy you have a job. it makes me crazy. I have a job yes thank you God but I also worked my butt off to earn keeping it.

Hope you dont get more ppl to work for. Our asst supports 7 people but we are very carefully not to overwhelm her and we end up doing a lot of stuff our self Chat Icon

Re: Yep, I should be happy I have a job

Now I have 4 and 3 of their phone lines. I'm sure the 4th phone line will follow.

My most senior boss is great and she is aware of the situation. I wouldn't voluntarily leave her unless it got unbearable. She is very good to me and doesn't care when I have to take time off (like opening day for the Yanks next week)..so I'm not inclined to jump ship.

Not so sure about the other 3.

All I know is if the mta and railroad increase I will probably have to work another job just to afford my day job!

I'm pretty much at the top of my pay scale for my position. I guess I could look for a higher spot but this market is not conducive.

yup this is what i have to keep reminding myself of everyday! i work for a terribly impatient woman who treats everyone like they're an idiot and is just down right rude at times. she makes everyone crazy and since i work directly on her team, we get the worst of it.

BUT...i thank God everyday that i have a job. she has her moments of being tolerable and when she's in a bad mood...i just try to smile and stay calm. and now being pg, i cant let her stress me out. so i just try to grin and bear it...and count the days till my maternity leave.Chat Icon Chat Icon
