Re: Jenny McCarthy...autism....
I am a special ed teacher and I see many children with autism.
I do not believe 100% that vaccines leads to autism, there could be a connection but I am not fully convinced.
My child will be getting their vaccines, I truely belive that there is more of a risk NOT getting your child vaccined then the other way around.
My child WILL have their vaccines spread a part, there is no reason to get so many in such a small amount of time, that freaks me out a lil.
I know everyone has their own views on this so please remember that this is just my own personal view that I obtained through my years of working with autistic children and their parents.

you are soo right about vaccines being harmfull if your child gets them all at once..thats what they are trying to prove!!!!! There is a safer way of getting vaccines..which is exactly how you said ...spread out....throughout time!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are just talking about how much crap is n the vaccines..nowdays...that there is a crazy amount of mercury and aluminum... When you do detox on mnay autistic...n not only..autistic children..it does help...and there is a strong link between the diet of the child as well!!! i think you are exactly right...we all grew up getting vaccines...but not that manyyy..and not at that crazy amount...and soo close....together....u know!!!!!...
here is a web site..and there is a safer vaccine schedule..thats what we are doing with my little brother!!!!!! http://www.generationrescue.org/

I agree...i also work with children with autism...there are many interventions that can be done to help the child (depending of course how severely autistic the child is) but to say that she "cured" her son is a little ridiculous

Re: Jenny McCarthy...autism....
sure ..CURE is not the word...but recovery..is !!! getting better is true...!!! it does depend on severity of a childs syndromes..and other stuff....but...if it helped someone why wouldnt u try ? if there are thousands of people...that this worked on them....why would you say...she is promoting FALSE info?? she said it doesnt work on everyone...

i think to say he is "recovering" from autism is just as bad as saying "cured" IMO
i think the right phrase is that maybe her son is "functioning better" with autism.... im not knocking ppl for trying it... b/c hey, i'm all for people trying whatever... but i think that she needs to choose her words more carefully b/c recovery is another horrible choice of wording
PLUS there are SO many different levels of autism... also, EARLY INTERVENTION is the key in any type of services for autistic children.... like i said, i havent read her books, and i really dont plan on it so yeah i really dont know word for word on what shes claiming... i just know from word of mouth... but what i DO know is that if my kids are diagnosed with a form of autism, downs or mental retardation i personally wouldnt be taking advice from someone who used to be the host of a dating show on MTV lol
ETA: i am also in this field and one of my best friends is a music therapist for children who have downs/autism so i know about a lot of great services out there... so thats mostly why i wouldnt really turn to her books - but to each its own... if people want to read her books and follow what she did, great - but for me, i wouldnt

Re: Jenny McCarthy...autism....
I also work with children with autism. While to a certain extent I do applaud Jenny Mc Carthy for raising awareness, I think it is completely irresponsible and quite frankly dangerous to come out and say her son was "cured". Early intervention and other therapies do play a key role as to how much progress a child can make, but people need to bear in mind that there is a HUGE spectrum, and what works for some, may unfortunately never work for others. I have witnessed first hand mothers grasping at every last possible hope, and God forbid I was ever in their situation I would probably do the same, but, unfortunately I have observed some very shady practices by so called professionals claiming to be able to "cure" these children. The scary truth is we do not know what causes such developmental disabilities. I personally do believe that there is probably a genetic disposition that is often brought out by environmental factors, such as vaccines. If and when I do have children, I fully intend to spread out their vaccinations. Other than that, the best any of us can do at this time is pray that we will someday have the answers neccessary in order to truly "cure" or combat this disorder, and in the meantime learn how to teach these children and families so affected by the spectrum how to compensate and overcome any obstacles that they might face, and hope that those luckily unaffected may somehow learn tolerance.

Re: Jenny McCarthy...autism....
I think that Jenny McCarthy is promoting false hope and I can't stand her. I applaud other celebrities like Amanda Peet who choose to stand up to her and promote vaccinations so my future children are not in danger of getting some disease that was previously almost extinct!
This subject is very close to my heart as my 7 year old nephew has autism. I do not believe that vaccines CAUSE autism and I also do not believe that autism can be cured. I think that Jenny McCarthy hurts more than she helps the cause!
