Unemployment Question
DHs job just told them everyone has to take one day off every other week. They can use their vacation days to get paid for it. They also told them they can collect unemployment for those days. This makes no sense to me. One, I've never heard of collecting unemployment while still working. Two, I don't understand how it helps the company save money if they are paying out vacation days and unemployment. Anyone have an idea?

Re: Unemployment Question
You can collect u/e while working. But you can't work more than 3 days a week or make more than $405.

Re: Unemployment Question
Yes you can receive unemployment while working. But there are guidlines. He should ask his employer about this as they have to do the filing. We have this at my company. We were all cut down 2 days a week and will be getting unemployment. We just found out we were approved and should be getting our checks in the next week or 2.

Re: Unemployment Question
Yes you can get uemployment while still working. My company changed my compensation package and it made me eligible so it definitely is possible.

Re: Unemployment Question
I am currently on unemployment - I don't think you can get it if you are working 4 days a week and just taking one off - and if they are paying him for that one day, I definitely don't think it's possible. He should talk to HR more about it or call the dept of labor directly.

Re: Unemployment Question
The reason they are telling employees to take vacation days is when eventually they get laid off, they don't have to pay out those days. Unfortunately, this is what happened with my husband.

Re: Unemployment Question
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I got the info from DHs job. It's actually the Shared Work program. For 53 weeks, they can have employees take off and the employees can collect a percentage of their pay for the day for those days. Here's the info if anyone is interested.
