i just want one day off of the stupid blackberry
by the tone and number of emails that i receive, you'd think that my company is on the verge of curing cancer.
i decided to take a day off tomorrow. my out of office message is up. i can hear my blackberry going off furiously. it's one person blowing it up - they didn't like that that i'd be out and that they wouldn't get an immediate response so they copied my boss saying that it's unprofessional that we're delaying, blah blah.
seriously? i mean, seriously? people have pulled stuff like this on me even when they know that i'm at a funeral. i shut off the blackberry and it's all "Where are you?" i'm MOURNING. what are you doing, besides emailing me every 45 seconds and working on stuff that is the opposite of urgent?
there's no fire. no one's hurt. and i have nothing to do with your deadline.
does anyone else have this issue?

This is exactly why I refuse to buy or have the company buy that kind of device for my job. I also think people get a little too bold in emails and will never probably say half the things in the tone they say them in email, in real life. I also hate when things are supposedly an urgent matter but instead of picking up the phone and calling me, they shoot out a bunch of passive-agressive emails.

FH has one and I sometimes want to throw it at the window.
He was out of the office a few weeks ago to attend my PhD thesis defense. One of his co-workers kept calling and hanging up (he had the phone on vibrate). When the genius finally decided to email him he saw he was out of the office for the day.

It's funny.............since I don't own one I don't know how to use one. I was at a training the other day sitting next to a colleague who received an email about a joint client we share. She passed me the Blackberry to read it and I am like, "Uh, how do I do it"......... Everyone was looking at me like I had 6 heads!

I received MORE than 1,000 emails in the one week I just took off. I wish I were kidding.
