What did you do on your first day back after maternity leave?
I teach 8th grade. I was with them until the holiday break in December.
I am going back to work on Monday and I am having a hard time trying to figure out what to do that first day. I dont want to just act like nothing happened and do an ordinary lesson. I went up to school today and I couldnt even remember all their names
I am thinking some kind of ice breaker? Maybe a what did you learn while I was gone type thing?
I am having a really hard time planning for the first day.

I taught HS and it was pretty much business as usual for me...although my leave was from the beginning of school to December, so I literally DIDN'T know them.
If I were you, I would probably get right back into work--answer a few questions and move right on. It's already the end of the year and they're in 8th grade...that's already a recipe for disaster!

I also wanted to add that we didn't act as if nothing happened...how could I when I taught 150 teenage girls!!!
I had plenty of pictures, etc. which I was happy to show off after class.

It was two years ago- I don't remember much! I know I brought a small album of pics. I was teaching seventh grade at the time, and had taught many of the kids as sixth graders, so they knew me pretty and were really into hearing about the baby. They also really disliked my replacement and both rooms were disasters, so we likely chatted and cleaned up. It was also late May, so there was no pressure about testing, etc.

I teach HS. It was a little bit of reminders/what is expected, etc, than I went right back into it.
