What do you give student teachers when they leave?

And about how much do you spend?

ETA: In the past, I've always bought a plan book, stickers, a chalk holder, and other cute supplies. But this year, my student teacher is from Korea! So I have to watch how 'heavy' it all is.

I can give you ideas of what I was given (as a student teacher), all thoughtful gifts that I loved.

from the whole class, I got a book that was based on a lesson (or a few lessons) I did with them, that were very enjoable. and each child signed the inside of the book (And the teacher wrote something nice).
along with a really kind card written by the teacher.

I also got both of my cooperating teachers a gift too.

i think the thought put into it means more than anything, and DEF something signed by the class.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked, but when I was a student teacher, my cooperating teacher made me a book with letters that the children wrote and pictures of things we had done. She also added a beautiful, heartfelt letter that she had written. 8 years later I treasure this book! Anything she could have bought me I probably would have lost or spent by now, but this book mean so much to me.

I got "Oh the Places You'll Go!" By Dr. Seuss that was signed by all of the teachers and kids, and a beautiful mariposa dish.

When I was student teaching, one of my cooperating teachers wrote a poem about me with the class (I did a poetry unit with them, so it was related) It was really cute! The kids also wrote me cards saying that they will miss me, and good luck, etc.

Another cooperating teacher made me a little party (bagels, fruit, etc) and gave me a bridal photo album, because my wedding was the very next week!

I got her a card from each class that the kids all signed. I made her a cake and gave her a card.

I don't know what grade you teach but I teach Elem and I had all the kids make a page of a book for her. Then I gave her a gift certificate along with a few supplies like post its, pens, pencils, stickers, etc. She almost cried when she read the book they made her.

I know this won't help much, but I didn't get anything from my cooperating teacher.

However, when student teacher's have come into my current school, we've taken them out to a nice lunch and given them a book that we've personally liked and letters from the students.

I gave my intern school supplies: highlighters, legal pads, binders, post-its... not sexy, but certainly useful. I spent about $30.
