NyC teachers what kind of maternity leave do we get?
I am under the impression we don't get paid unless we use our sick days up, is this right? Then what happens? I think I have 35 days after this can I collect disability? Any help would be great, I really need to start planning this out for the next school year. thanks.

I had my baby in early June, so i used sick days for June and had off July and August and returned in September. I know that you can borrow up to 20 days from your bank too. I'm notsure about disability though.

I am pretty sure there is no disability- I had to leave at 34 weeks on my doctor's orders and looked into it. We have to use our sick days up, then we can borrow up to 20 more. Then we go on a "grace period" of 30 days where we get paid for weekends and holidays, depending on how many sick days you have. Regardless, you get 12 weeks under FMLA and then you go on a child care leave.
So you have 35 days, which is about 7 weeks. Then, if you borrow 20, you would get paid for about another 4 weeks. Then, if you were going to continue to stay out, you'd be in the "grace period".
