"Child/Baby on Board" stickers on cars... and bad drivers

I have been encountering this more and more lately...

first of all, thanks for sharing that you have a child on board - I care Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Second, assuming the reason you put that sign there, is to possibly alert others sharing the road with you that you have precious cargo, so please don't tailgate, cut me off, etc... SO THEN WHY may I ask are YOU driving like a NYC cab driver on crack? Chat Icon

I saw one this weekend that wasn't the yellow diamond with the suction cup - it was painted on the glass and it said "Drive Carefully - Baby in Car."

I saw a car with one of those signs recently also - they were driving normally but it's been a long time since I saw one. I thought they were a fad from the 90's.

I guess there was no baby on board when that driver was driving like a maniac.

Carrot Top had a baby on board prop...it was a baby doll attached to a piece of wood. I couldn't find a picture that I could post here.

And like people who drive reckless are really going to see that sign that said baby in car, drive carefully and be like "Hmm, let me slow down around this car. I'll resume driving like a douche bag once I pass the baby"

Please. A-hole drivers don't give a cr@p...

i really don't get those, doesn't even have to be baby on board, collie on board, or my turtle is on board - no one gives a flying poo about what you have in that car.

I really don't want to start an inflammatory thread..but I think those little rub on's of your entire family on the back of your mini-van or SUV are kind of stupid too. I'm not looking for commentary from anyone who has children that may be reading this..they just wouldn't be for me if I had a family. I don't get why you want to advertise. I guess it's the 21st century version of the "baby on board" sign that suctions to the window.

Re: "Child/Baby on Board" stickers on cars... and bad drivers

When I was in EMS and responding to car accidents, I absolutely noticed them. The first thing I looked for was a carseat in the back.

Do I drive differently if I see them? No. I like to think I'm a good driver regardless of signs in people's windows. However, if I do see a "Drive Carefully - my Grandma and Grandpa are inside" license plate frames, and I notice them driving slow in front of me, I respect my elders and do not get upset. Chat Icon

And by the way - I do notice any dog-related stickers/magnets on the back of cars and if they're Labs I absolutely look for them! I have one but am afraid it will fall off and I'll lose it so it's on my fridge instead. Chat Icon

To me that sounds more like a reminder to the driver than to whoever mgiht encounter the car on the road lol

I hate those family stickers too. I don't really understand why you'd want them... and some even have names on them, which seems a little unsafe to me.

That's a good point. I never thought of it that way -- sort of like the Tot Finder stickers on windows for the fire department.

I think it would be eaiser to spot the car seat instead of one of those signs.

Not to be grim, but I've seen some pretty terrible accidents. Chat Icon Sometimes it's not easy to make sense of what's inside a car when it's just a mass of twisted metal. Not that a sign is going to be right where it was originally put, but bright yellow does stand out more than a car seat.

I remember finding one laying on Hempstead Turnpike one night at an accident scene. Thankfully, the child was not in the car. But those few seconds, my heart was beating out of my chest.

Emergency calls involving children were by far the absolute worst calls.
