Interview shoe dilema - need answers ASAP

I have an interview tomorrow in a prestigous LI district tomorrow. I have my black suit all set, but after going through my closet I realized I only have a pair of open-toe, t-strap heels that would match. Are those inappropriate for an interview?!? Am I over-thinking it? The suit is a skirt and jacket, do I wear stockings even though it's 80 degrees? (Can you tell it's been awhile since I interviewed anywhere?)

Thanks in advance.

No, your shoes will be fine.. You also do not need to wear stockings.
Trust me I work at a very nice school district on LI, you should see how some of the adminstrators and teachers dress.
good luck to you

I would be cautious and go the more 'conservative' route. I can understand what the above poster suggested, but I feel like it really depends on the specific school.

In my school, there are teachers who wear strapless dresses and tank tops with their cleavage flashing..... but where I student taught, teachers dressed much more professional.... I would just be as conservative as possible- you can't go wrong that way, IMO!

That's just how I feel though- I don't have a ton of interview experience Chat Icon

my district is conservative, however when i interviewed, i went with caris and 1 strap black leather wedges, second interview w/skirt and same shoes, demo w/capris and superinendent with skirt...no hosiery either time and the other women in the office waiting, were full suit attire w/hosiery and blazers...i don't think they care too much about our appearance, as the content of our resume, references and our answers during the process

good luck!!!

I have to agree...I'm in a top district and they are pretty conservative here.

especially if it's elem ed. English, Soc St. (very competitive right now) there are so many well-qualified candidates that you don't want clothing to be the deciding factor

I teach in a top LI district and although we dress casually during the school day, I know for a fact that the teachers and administrators expect conservative dressing during interviews. They are definitely looking for it, so I'd go with light, sheer pantyhose.

Good luck with your interview!

I would dress conservatively. Doesn't matter how people within the district dress, you are on an interview. I would wear closed toe shoes and stockings - I always did - even if interviews were in the summer.

Thanks everybody!

Interview was ok. I was a little nervous, and I could hear it in my voice. But I knew my stuff, and hopefully that came across, too.

They said I should hear something this week... we shall see.
