Vick signs with Eagles
I'm actually surprised that he signed with them. I was watching SportsCenter and Eagle fans are calling in saying "he deserves a second chance" and "people make mistakes". I get that-I really do-nobody's perfect and yes people do deserve second chances. However, I don't believe that Vick deserves a second chance making $6 million over two years and fame and all the perks. I believe that Vick-and all celebrities that kids idolize-should be held accountable for their actions. Vick gets a second chance to continue playing football. If I were a teacher and did what Vick did, I would without a doubt lose my license and my second chance would be whatever I chose to MAKE it-but it wouldn't be in the field of teaching again and I would have to find another way to earn a living. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I just had to get it off my chest!

I said the same thing last night to DH.. He said "well you know" I replied with "what, so its ok to kill animals and go to jail, come out and make mad loot" Not in my life would it happen. They should be ashamed of themselves. Screw the Eagles!!! I hope their season tanks!!!!

There's a difference between "making a mistake" and actively participating in a disgusting, sadistic criminal act...anyone who enjoys watching living things suffer has a screw loose in my opinion...

Re: Vick signs with Eagles
So what you are saying that everybody that does something wrong can never work again? Every line of work is different so if the NFL let him back in, as they do others for killing people (Dante Stallworth has is out 1 year w/o pay) that is their choice.
He went threw the legal process, heck, he is still being watched with people itching to throw him back in (he in on probation for many years i believe). He is still suspended from football till weak 6.
He is not making the money he was. The first year is only 1.5-2 Millioin where before, he was making 6-7 million a year.
He owes money, needs to work to replay people...everybody says and wants justice, will, he served it and now that he is out and has a job, it doesn't seem right still?? People will never be satisfied.

Re: Vick signs with Eagles
IMO, he made his bed he should lie in it. Just as I believe Plaxico should be done too, these people are role models. What the NFL is doing is setting the example for kids and telling them-go to jail and you have earned your spot back in the limelight. And if we're supposed to feel bad that he "owes people money and needs to repay people" and he's only making 1.5 million, sorry, that doesn't make me feel bad for him. I have a mortgage to repay and I'm only making 50K for an entire year-not a 15 week year.

I don't think she meant he can never work again, but for the NFL to let him back in and pay him millions is outrageous!! He has a very public career & some would consider a role model. Someone else deserving should get his spot on the team and he should make his money cleaning garbage off the sides of highways.

Re: Vick signs with Eagles
there are certain occupations that come with overreaching consequences if you are convicted of a felony. teaching may be one.
playing football is probably not one of those things.
the man commited a crime. a heinous crime in many peoples eyes. fine.
but we relied on our legal system to assess that crime and punish him on our behalf. they did and he was punished.
saying that once he served his time he should not be able to return to a life and occupation is ridiculous to me.
sure, it sucks that his occupation makes him a lot of money. I am annoyed on the regular at how much ATHLETES and movie stars make as compared to "regular" people.
but whether he went back to work as a janitor, supermarket bagger, or NFL player, once we say "this is the punishment for what you did" and that punishment is completed, it should be OVER.
he did the time. hopefully he will never do it again.
the worst part about our prison system on a whole is that we are liars. we don't really believe in rehabilitation. we as a people don't believe that people CAN take their punishments, be rehabilitated, and come out to go on and lead successful lives. and that is a good part of the reason why the recidivism rate is so high. they are not given a chance to prove themselves...not given a chance to recreate a life for themselves or their families....and they go back to what they know...what is familiar.
Michael Vick is NOT a role model of any kind. animal cruelty NOT withstanding. he's an athlete...he has a special talent. that's it.
it's possible to respect that talent...to show our kids that talent...but to still believe and show our children that his LIFE, LIFESTYLE, and BELIEFS are not to be emulated. he is not paid to show your child how to conduct him/herself in life. he is paid to run with a football.
end of story.

You don't like it? Boycott Eagles games. The NFL is a private organization and free to make their own rules and requirements for players.

Awww the poor baby is going from 7 million a year for playing a boys game to only 2 million. How my heart aches for him
If I went to prison for a felony do you think my job would give me back my VP title? Or do you think I would end up on the late shift at Taco Bell?

ITA. I think his actions were gross, but he did go through the system from beginning to end.

I see your point of view, but I have to disagree.
Playing in the NFL should be a privilege.. not a right just because he served time. (IMO it wasn't enough time for what he did.)
There are plenty of other "talented" men on college teams hoping for a spot in the NFL - One of them should get his spot & his salary... someone who didn't hang dogs from trees and electrocute them with jumper cables because they lost a fight.

see, I don't see it as either a privilege or a right. I see it as a JOB.
and just like there are plenty of talented people vying for any job on any given day, one person is hired over another person for a reason. this reason happens to be Vick's football playing ability. he has something the Eagles need that they haven't seen anyplace else or whatever the reason.

yes, what he did was digusting and ugly. but it just goes back to what I said. we can focus on what he DID to go to jail, or what he has done to do his time, get out, and hopefully become a productive member of society.
anyway, I don't even watch American "football" they barely even use their feet

Re: Vick signs with Eagles
if i were the owners of the eagles i wouldn't want someone like him representing my organization..no matter how good he is/was.....if i were an eagle fan i would be ******..i wouldn't want my hard earned money that i pay for season tickets to go in his pocket.....i don't think he got enough time...$/being a celebrity talks ya know.....
it's not like he spray painted a fence or stole a car....it makes me sick every time i think about what he did with no care in the world.....
his second chance is not being in jail forever..he gets to live...not like those poor dogs...where is the 2nd chance for all of the dogs he destroyed?..he didn't necessarily need a 2nd chance at a high paying public career....he gets to be a real ******* and live a lavish lifestyle...doesn't make sense

I will probably get flamed for this but whatever.
In know way do I condone what Michael Vick has done. But, people make mistakes. Stupid ones, insensitve ones based on greed and utter stupidity. Vick has paid for his crime. He went to jail he has lost his home and probably most of his possessions. All the time we see athletes, who get busted for drugs, DWI, murder, domestic violence, shooting themselves out of sport, etc and they get a slap on their wrist. Why is that okay? Are they roles models no? Baseball has gone done the drain with the lies and stupidity of the players and so football next? It is Vicks career and so if he gets reisgned he should IMO have the chance to rebuild his life. If he blows his second chance oh well then.

I think that any athlete that messes up should be held to the same standards as regular people. For example, a young teacher just starting out got a DWI one night. She went back to work and got terminated almost immediately. There was no second chance for her, and that was that. I think if the athlete is proven guilty, they've lost their chance.

Re: Vick signs with Eagles
Nobody that stupid should be allowed to earn millions of dollars in a very public role.
The Eagles should lose every game he plays in.
If he is offered endorsements, those companies should lose millions.
His crime was just greed and stupidity and this just feeds into it.
He is not rehabilitated. I give him a few years and he'll do something else that's stupid.
