I've been practicing for 10 years now. I will tell you that it's a hard program to get into. They like to see A's and B's in your sciences. The pre req's are tough classes and the program itself is pretty intense since it's condensed into 2 years. There were days where I had clinic where I was in school from 8am to 9pm. I did it when I was newly married and I can't imagine doing it with a family although we did have moms in our class. No job in this economy is easy to come by but you will find jobs open. It's a wonderful, flexible profession with good pay which is perfect for a mom. My current office lets me set my own hours which is wonderful. Any questions feel free to FM me.

Just wanted to chime in that DH is trying to get into nursing and it's rough out there. The acceptance rates are about 5% for the two-year programs (this comes directly from their office of admissions), and are a little higher at the private schools like Adelphi and Molloy but they cost tens of thousands in tuition. He's a male with 4 years experience in a hospital and B's in his science courses and was rejected everywhere he applied last year. Chat Icon

I know SUNY Farmingdale has a dental hygiene Associate's program - have you checked that out?

I know Suffolk Community College in Selden has a great reputation for their nursing program.
