Dental Implants
Do they hurt? I had a tooth pulled last year and I have totally been putting off having the implant done.

yes it is a process ...I thought she meant how long is the discomfort for since she was only inquiring about the pain.

Ok here is my deal, I had a tooth pulled last year, and I have my pre-op next week, and my implant two weeks after that. Is that all the process entails? And Yes, I was inquiring about the pain..I am freaked out!

Re: Dental Implants
Dental implants wont cause much more discomfort than getting a regular filling done. I work for an oral surgeon and we do them all the time, generally a motrin 800 for after the procedure is all the patient will need. obviously everyone is different and there may be some discomfort the following day as well. All of our patients say "it was nothing".
After you get the implant placed you need to wait 4-6 months for it to integrate with your bone, at which point you will have it "exposed" and can then start the restoration process. the whole thing should take about 6-7 months, 6 months for the implant and then a few weeks for the lab work etc. to get the crown placed. if you have any questions at all dont hesitate to ask!

Re: Dental Implants
I got an implant, and it didn't hurt at all. Well, I was slightly sore like getting a cavity filled, but it was nothing compared to what I had expected.
The titanium screw was put into my jaw, then I had to wait 6 months or so to get it set and healed. In that time I got Pregnant, but that didn't matter, I went in after 6 months, they took the impression for the tooth to fit in there, and 2 weeks later I was all set.
I also have a bridge on the other side of my mouth, and had to have it replaced after only 3 years, so I am defintiely an advocate for the implant over the bridge, if possible.
