The best compliment

Being a 3rd year teacher most of you may remember a lot of the hardships I've had my first 2 years...issues with the DOE and my VERY hard to manage class last year.

Well this year started off on a really good note. I love my class, yes its not perfect but I really truly enjoy going to work each day this year (so far )

I've often felt like an inadequate teacher at times and while some of the people who have seen me teach tell me that I'm a good teacher I never really felt like one. That is until yesterday....I was told that I would be sent one of the 1st grade students for my literacy block because this student is really behind (doesn't know all the letters or sounds of the alphabet) and since at my school we teach a grade level ahead he is really far behind.

The first grade teacher tells me that the admin automatically said he should go into my class. There are 4 K classes in my school (me, one new teacher, one who taught pre-k, and one who taught K for 40 years). My admin said "While I think Ms. X (teacher who taught for 40 years) is a great teacher, I think Ms. Y (me) is better."

I was floored, honestly. I'm like really me? Gosh am I finally doing something right? It's the best compliment I have ever received from an admin considering when i worked for the city, they looked for everything to knock me down and tell me I was a horrible teacher.

In a job that rarely shows appreciation I thought this was rather awesome and it really made me feel good about myself as a teacher.

I'm glad you are finally getting the recognition you deserve!!! You have gone through so much in the last few years--extra compliments because you stuck it out and I'm so glad that it is paying off for you!!!

I am putting a lot of hard work, I just always think it goes unnoticed

I won an award during the beginning of the year workshops for being Highly Motivated and having a Positive Attitude...I was like Really? Me? In my head I'm so pessimistic sometimes but I guess its not what I reflect on the oustide since I put my best face forward.

So thanks again ladies! I'm still feeling good about me!
