Really weird, if somen can explain this to me......
I just called a dentist's office to make an appointment and when I asked the women do you take Aenta dental she said, "we actually don't take any insurance...if you would like us to submit the paperwork for you we will and whatever they don't pay you will be responsible for." hugh???
I never heard of a medical office not taking ANY insurance? What does all this mean?

I have heard of this. A lot of dentists, if they are not in your network will either bill you and you deal w/ getting reimbursed from your insurance carrier or they submit the bill as a courtesy and balance bill you. HTH
ETA- A lot of dentists do not take insurance.

The dentists we use don't take insurance either. We just pay upfront and submit the bill to our insurance carrier.

Many drs and dentists make you pay upfront. Some will not even submit it for you, you submit it yourself. I find many of the REALLY good drs dont take the insurance....

i've heard this too... and i just choose to go to someone who will take it. you can do that, or ask them BEFORE you have the cleaning or procedure done how much it will cost and see if you're comfortable paying that, or the balance of whatever the insurance company will give you (which you can then turn over to them).

a lot of dentists are not "participating physicians" in health plans. my dentist isnt. i go, they submit the paperwork to my insurance co. & i pay the remainder.

Re: Really weird, if somen can explain this to me......
My old dentist (who has since moved to the west coast, unfortunately) didn't take any health insurance at all. However, my plan paid for a huge chunk of anyone I went to out of network. So they did the paperwork and I only paid a small portion.

Re: Really weird, if somen can explain this to me......
I agree with the above poster who said the good dentists don't take insurance; for years i went to an in network dentist, and i have veneers that he really messed up and didn't fix or replace them properly (I found out later) because he knew he wouldnt get much money from the ins co for the right work he shouldve done. I think this is the problem with going in network. What incentive do they have to do the right thing, if they know they won't get paid squat and have to eat the cost?
I switched dentists to one who doesnt take any insurance and he corrected the problem; yes it cost me $ but his office submits the claim to the ins co and they reimburse me a drop (better than nothing).
Its worth it to me to spend the money on my teeth.

I've heard this is actually very common in NYC but I've always gone to doctors who take insurance so I've never really had to deal with it.
A lot of doctors don't want to deal with insurance and get enough patients where they can just not take any

To me, it means they are not an in-network dentist. I would either switch to one that was or get them to take the insurance amount.

getting the dentist to "take the insurance amount" is not something that you being a client/patient get to decide.....
their fees are their fees and if the dentist in not in network they are free to charge as they wish

Re: Really weird, if somen can explain this to me......
It can be frustrating finding them. But there are "in network" dentist that are very good. I tried several because I am very particular about my teeth.
I go to an awesome dentist. The practice has several dentists & they do participate with insurances.
Personally, I am very happy with my dentist. She is professional, thorough & so gentle. The whole office is really friendly & caring.
My out of pocket expenses are not very high & the quality of care is better than I received with any other dentist. I have recommended many friends & family members. And they are all thrilled. Feel free to FM me if you want me to give you her name & #.
